Hearty congratulations to corporate management
They successfully saved a bundle of money by changing server farms. All it cost them is about a third of their customer base for next year due to all the launch problems and now the BS login problems. It also appears that they have missed at least one round of sims and possibly two.

IMO it's unfair to suggest the change in backend providers happened simply to save money. The facts suggest that the change wasn't something the OOTP development team planned on, and it's already likely cost them revenue.
The change in backend providers happened late in the development cycle. That's why the game launched a month later than usual, and why the PT23 mode wasn't available alongside the rest of the game. Those delays probably cost OOTP some revenue to begin with. Nobody (with the possible exception of certain MLB owners like the Angelos family) is dumb enough to make decisions they know will cost them money to begin with. If the change in backend providers had been a planned decision designed to save money, OOTP23 and PT23 would have at the very least launched on time. Maybe I was just lucky, but IMO the Entry Pool week went pretty smoothly. The only problem I encountered were cards disappearing if I cancelled a sell order. I had to re-start the game before they'd appear in my Inactive Cards list. I don't think there was anything to suggest today would be such a wide-spread disaster. |

Well, so far from this rollout they've won me as a PT customer. Every other year I clicked on PT, got bored in about 10 minutes, and never looked back. This week I've been having a blast with it and plan to continue playing it from now on.

It really doesn't matter when things were planned or why they aren't working. The bottom line is that the product isn't working. I'm sure they have lost people and the frustration level is high for about 98%.
If they can't even get games to sim, we are basically just playing a card collection game. It would be more interesting to pull out my Topps boxes from the 70s and 80s. |
