Uniforms Of Retired Players
If I'm seeing things correctly, retired players adapt the latest incarnation of their team's uniform. Is there a way to lock them in the uniform that they used during their career?

Only way I've found is unretire a player, change his team's uniform to his era, and re-retire him. Then when you change the team's uniform back to the present, he'll still be in the uniform of his era, as long as you don't refresh his picture. The trade off is, the year he retired will no longer be the year he retired in real life.

Now that the game permits teams to have multiple uniforms, I really hope the developers add the ability to designate certain uniforms as historic uniforms for profile/HOF purposes. This would require the addition of a date range for those uniforms. It would also require the game, in addition to identifying a player's best team, to pick a year with that player's best team. Ideally the game would select the uniform the player wore the longest with that team, but the uniform from the player's best year with his best team would also be fine. If the developers could add this feature, it would make a long-time OOTP player extremely happy.

You'd need something on the Player Editor, accessible to non-commissioners, that overwrote the uniform settings. The same way individual strategy can overrule team strategy.
The game asks "Who do you play for new HoF member?", The game responds, "Phillies", it then asks "What do those Phillies wear for uniforms", and it looks to the one place there is an answer. But if you had a player toggle/loading area to load a cap and jersey direct to the player, the game would come back to the first question with a different answer just for that player. So when your HOF ballot appears, you ought to edit anyone on it and load those caps and jerseys - just in case they get elected - because likely once that picture is taken for the plaque, it's done. Now, that kind of process could get wonky if one starts to give every player different uniforms in the main game until it's a circus out there, but I suppose All-Star games do this a bit with caps. Maybe it's grayed-out until retirement if that can be done. Anyway, just trying to think aloud of how it could happen. I love the HoF elections. That's part of the reason I'd like the game to go back and create ballots for select twenty year intervals (so if player X debuted in some particular 20 year range), take the HoF milestones less X% and rerun for me a HoF ballot of Y players. A veterans committee as it were done every five years or something. |
