What was your most disappointing loss in a OOTP game?

Have you ever played a game that it looked like victory was certain, and then you inexplicably wound up losing? For instance, were you ever ahead by 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth with two out- and the batter hit a grand slam (or something similar?) Were you ever up 3-0 in the World Series, only to lose the next four?

That’s the beauty of this game. I can’t count the number of times I felt the agony of defeat….but…..also been on the good side of the game. It’s like hitting that one sweet golf shot that keeps you coming back

Back in ootp17 or so, I was leading the NLCS against the Cubs, I forget if I was in game 3 or 4 (going for either a 3-0 series lead or 4-0 sweep), and leading the game 8-0. They came back in the game and never lost again. My pitchers went into shell shock mode and gave up 3+ homers per game the rest of the series. It was crazy, I got depressed for like a week lol.

On the flip side, I recently had a team come back from 2-0 in the DS, 3-1 in the NLCS, and 3-1 in the WS in the same playoffs. Two seasons later, with mostly the same group of guys, had to climb back from 3-2 in both NLCS and WS, and capped it off with 2 HRs in the bottom of the 9th when all hope was lost, including a walkoff slam for the title.

I just had three straight extra-inning walk-off losses in the World Series in my game.

So that was fun.

I just lost Game 7 of the LCS so the most disappointing is always the most recent. I worked so hard to build a winning team, took so long to make the playoffs, and it's all over. I'm in the offseason, time to push the rock up the mountain again.

Whoa, same here! Lost the LCS yesterday I was up 3 games to 2, then lost games 6 and 7 , one epic bullpen collapse then lost 3-1 in the finale, it hurts!

Became the first team in *** history to lose Game 7 of the Japan Series on an extra-innings walk-off home run. If we hadn't beaten the same team in Game 7 the following season, I'd still be fuming about it.

Up 3-1 in a World Series, lost Game 6 on the road 4-2 after trailing 4-0. Nothing too upsetting, just a bit disappointing.

Then came home and had this happen in Game 6.

OK, we still have Game 7.

Then this happened.

That's an easy one. I've played since OOTP '08. One franchise was neck and neck with my best dynasties in terms of regular season success, utterly dominant, but won only one title in 5-6 years of top notch play, usually getting booted in the first round. One season, we were up 3-1 in the World Series. Lost game 5 in pretty ordinary fashion. Game 6 was all but a lock. Best closer in baseball on the mound with a 5-1 lead in the top of the 9th. He gave up a single, two walks, and a grand slam to tie the game before retiring a single batter. We then went deep into extras, maybe 14 or 15 innings only to lose by 1. Got blown out in game 7. Quit the save.

Sometimes I wonder if there's computer assist built in to OOTP. I don't control any of the teams in my fictional league. I play in commissioner mode and watch everything unfold. So many times I've seen a team with a large lead in the 9th inning, only to have their bullpen walk batters, allow hit after hit, and the fielders turn into little league kids. I've had many playoff games where a team was up say 8-1 in the 9th and barely hold on to win 8-7, and some of them have even turned out to be miracle comebacks.

World Series Game six, Mitch Williams on the mound protecting the lead, things all set up for Game Seven, Joe Carter up to bat. No, wait. That actually happened. Still a painful memory.
