Data Corruption
I am getting an error message that OOTP 22 cannot open my 1952 season due to player data files either missing or corrupted. I have not been able to restore through backup or troubleshooting. And for some reason, the F12 screenshots are not being saved in the folder.
The cause of this may have been deleting files in the course of a routine cleanup of my hard drive. I recall deleting some OOTP files that I thought were temporary, to load a patch. Oops. None of my other seasons (1884, 1914, 1930, 1960, 1994, 2021) seem to be affected, and gameplay seems okay too - thankfully! But can I restore that 1952 season? The first error message says “An error occurred while loading the database! Could not load players files.” Then; “DATABASE PROBLEM. A problem occurred while loading the league files. Click OK to save the current files in a folder named “incident” inside you league folder now and to let OOTP try to restore your game to the state of the lat previous successful save…..”. Did that. Then: “INCIDENT FILES SAVED….” and “DATABASE RESTORED” but another error message next: “An error occurred while loading the database! Could not load players file.” And then “the loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version.” Is there a way I can restore files that I may have inadvertently deleted? Have I lost the Season data, despite faithfully backing it up? The Season won’t restore from the backup, same series of error messages. Hoping I did not ruin it for myself. |

In the absence of any replies or guidance, I gather I am out of luck in restoring those 1952 Season files. Now I can't even recall how far along I was; but I would guess into June? Not sure if I have the wherewithal to start the sim from scratch. It would have that odd "Groundhog Day" aspect. And I'm not sure that a new season would play properly, if in fact there are missing files. I am confounded that my frequent saves and full backups have not rescued me from a rash act of deleting random files. Oh, well.
The only hint I have gotten from perusing similar tech support tales of woe is that reloading the game might replace the missing player files and solve the problem. Before doing that, I need to be aware of the risks involved, if any. Also, I realize I don't know how to go back and reinstall, perhaps from the home screen? I have hope, in that my seasons/games from OOTP 21 migrated over to OOTP 22 without a hiccup. Perhaps I will back up everything and reload. Hope for the best. |

have you tried using auto restore? don't have a link off hand - but you can search the term on the general page ... it only works for the last time the game was close (saved) ... maybe it'll help? Lukas has written the procedure up quite a few times, so it should be easy to find.

Restoring from the autosave should fix things here. It's at least the first thing to try.
To restore from the automatic backup, do the following: 1) Open the game and on the start screen, click on Settings 2) Now click on the tab "Troubleshooting". 3) Click "Open folder containing saved games". 4) Now open up the league folder you're wanting to restore. 5) Then select all of the .dat files in the folder and back them up (just in case) by copying them to a temporary folder or creating a zipped file with them 6) Open the folder called "auto-save". 7) In there, select all of the ".dat" files and copy them to the league folder (the parent of the current folder) overwriting all of the ".dat" files in the league folder. 8) Now start the game and load your league

Have you tried to use some salvage data services? I had a similar situation date I have reinstalled the Windows on my computer. I have a hard disk for important information related to work and not only, and a hard disk for the operating system. After I have reinstalled the Window, all the data from the hard disk with important information was corrupted. I could open any file from that hard disk. I was very mad because a lot of my projects were lost. Luckily, I found a company that deals with such problems and could restore all the data.
