How on earth is C Yasmani Gandal a perfect card ?

C Yasmini Gandal. 2021 CWS

42 contact
47 gap
86 power
102 eye
30 avoid k’s

88 catcher
92 catcher ability
61 arm

What am I missing about this guy ? I wouldn’t even pay 500 pop’s for him.

1) Live cards are on a different scale than historical and are supposed to reflect real world performance
2) Live ratings use rate stats as opposed to cumulative
3) He actually had a fantastic 2021 on a per-PA basis (.420 OBP / .520 SLG is insane for a defensive position)

His point though is that he is bad. But the thing he failed to realize is EVERY live card is bad. All the perfects are bad, the diamonds are bad, the golds are bad, the silvers are bad, the bronzes are bad. If you converted a live card to a historical card, you would pretty much shave at least 10 OVR off it's rating.

It really wasn't though. Grandal put up more WAR in 375 PA than Perez did in 665 PA. Grandal was a 59% better-than-average hitter (by wRC+) while Perez was only 27% better than average. It's all about the plate discipline.
