Low resolution mode removed in macOS Monterey, can't play OOTP on external monitor
So on previous OS, I've been able to enable low resolution mode pretty simply, which allows me to move an OOTP window onto my external monitor. That has been removed from macOS Monterey and now that window won't expand. Does anyone have a workaround?

is it an old CRT monitor? That would reuire an NTSC converter for an old tube tv.
even an old 1280x720 hd tv should be fine with no need to scale and the resolution should be an option. These are all digital now. TV should work just like any monitor as long as you have a hdmi output. while not familiar with apple products, it seems very unlikely it cannot lower resolution to 1280x720, which would be as small reso as any tv would have since 2006 or 2007? change your overall resol for laptop and see what happened... dual screens will have options in your settings.. it may have been reworked, but should still exist. apple... meh. |

I found this just now - https://matridox.com/2021/12/07/appl...monterey-12-1/.
It seems to suggest that a fix is coming soon. I hope that's the case. |

SECOND UPDATE: I've found that occasionally I have to do a sort of toggle the High Resolution Capable setting to make OOTP launch. If it won't launch, just open up xcode, delete that live and save it, open OOTP to make sure it works, close it again undo deleting the line, save it again, and launch. Works fine. Bit of a pain in the ass so the below terminal command may be your better bet if it's more sticky and less buggy. I wasn't able to get it to work properly myself.
UPDATE: I fixed it, after playing with it for a while. Here's how, in the simplest step-by-step I can give (because I don't truly know what I'm doing but hey), to get low res mode back so OOTP works with your external. 1. Download XCode off the app store. It's like 12gb so might take a bit. 2. Once it's downloaded, open it up. 3. Go to Applications>OOTP 22>Right click>Show Package Contents>Contents>Info.plist 4. Open Info.plist in XCode (I dragged and dropped it from the folder onto the app) 5. Should get what looks like a big menu with three columns (Key, Type, Value) 6. The thing we need isn't here! Hover over the lowest row in Key next to the up and down arrows (mine was Status bar style) 7. Hit the plus sign 8. From the dropdown menu under Key, select High Resolution Capable. Then, under the Value field, select NO. 9. Save and close. 10. Open OOTP 22, and it should be back in low-resolution mode on your external monitor. This is dumb and Apple shouldn't have done this but hey, hope it works. -- Having the same issue, tried solutions in these two links, but no dice. Also tried toggling a few other settings within the Info.plist file but nothing worked there, either. Very frustrating. Going to try doing it in XCode (was using Terminal) mentioned in those and this. Will post an update if it works. Last edited by npurcell8; 12-10-2021 at 05:11 PM. |

It's not as easy... but this is also doable directly via the terminal with the following command (Note: $NAME is the machine/user name directory where your library sits
![]() Code:
sudo nano /Users/$NAME/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Out\ of\ the\ Park\ Baseball\ 22/OOTP\ Baseball\ 22.app/Contents/Info.plist This will bring up an editor in insert mode. Scroll to the bottom of the file right ahead of the </dict> line Insert the following (note: (Tab) means hit your tab key): Code:
(Tab)<key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key> Code:
(Tab)<false/> You should be good to go |

I had been trying the suggestion from the Tech Support forum https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=333219 but was running into crashes due to a code signing issue. I've since figured out that if I set my the MacBook resolution higher and then start OOTP, I can move the game window on to my external monitor and it works okay.
1. I bought and installed EasyRes from the App Store 2. For my MacBook Pro (14" M1) monitor, I set it to 2560x1600 3. For my external monitor I set it to 3360x1890 4. I start OOTP and drag it over to the external monitor and maximize This has been working well for me. I can then set my main laptop display back to the default if I want and OOTP keeps working fine. Quite the hassle, but it is working. |

Actually, I just realized that if I drag the OOTP window to the external monitor fast enough I don't have to mess with the MacBook display.

can you set it as the default monitor before you start the app? could probably make something similar to a batch file or a script to switch monitors and open it?

I'm new to Mac so I don't know much about scripting or equivalent to batch files... There are Shortcuts that allow you to automate such things, but not sure if these in particular are available. Maybe some more familiar with the platform have suggestions.

I downloaded Monterey 12.1 and just had to fiddle with the resolution on my external monitor to get it to work. Didn't need to add any scripts or do anything "fancy."
