Is it too easy to negotiate contract extensions?
I am asking this (not complaining) because it seems players in the final year of their contracts are usually willing to re-negotiate a contract extension (particularly early) when it's the final year of the deal, and they will be a free agent.
IRL players consider free agency to be a very coveted status (especially the first time) and are most ALWAYS going to play the field to see what they can get. To them....it's finally pay day time. Now grated, they may be asking for a lot of money when you approach them (which is a good thing) but wouldn't most players just say (and maybe for the purposes of making OOTP much more challenging) "I am likely going to test the free agent waters, and don't yet wish to negotiate a contract?
Maybe I am not right on this, but it's just something I happened to think about when I went to go see what all the players' in the last year of contracts would do.
