Keep Generating New Fictional Leagues
Does anyone else have the same problem I have? I find myself continually creating new fictional leagues. I just can't seem to get one to stick with. I usually develop one and then simulate a weeks worth of games at a time and look at the stats throughout the league. I very rarely get past the first year before starting over. I just last night created a new league and played out the first game by PBP and am looking forward to tonight's game/games. I want to develop a history but don't want to miss anything. I'll probably start a new league in a few days and go back to simulating a weeks worth at a time. This game stresses me out (in a wonderfully addictive kind of way). I just want to create the perfect fictional baseball universe!!!! I know, I have a problem. It's called OOTPitis. HELP!!! How can I create a league that I'll stick with?

I have the same problem, but it is related to poor performance in the first year - when I'm .400 in mid-august it is really tempting just to decide the league structure is all wrong and it's time to start again. But stick with it, seeing the development - good or bad - of your players is great. Try playing 1 out of 5 or so, it gives a nice balance between getting to know the players and still getting through seasons in a reasonable time (about 3 weeks for me).

A really good post several weeks ago has worked great for holding my interest in a fictional league. As the first year draft begins, I look at all of the top minor league prospects in baseball. I edit the names of every top prospect to childhood friends, neighbors and family members.
That really keeps your interest, following their careers from age 18 until retirement. Makes you good for several years. And it's really hard when a best friend finally peaks, demands a huge salary, and angrily leaves the team when you can't meet their demands. Also really hard to trade them. Probably what it feels like to be a compassionate manager with players who add a lot to the dugout but just aren't delivering on the field.

As a rule, fictionals take 4 seasons to really get 'into'..............stick with it and once you learn your league, you'll NEVER give it up.

Yeah...I had the same problem...
My entire OOTP experience, starting with OOTP 3, was around one league. With OOTP 5, I wanted to start fresh. Almanac, all the great stadium mods by the community. I've started and re-started probably 25 leagues since OOTP 5 came out. For me to get into it...I've found out I need to sim a week or two for the first 5 seasons....then start playing out all the games for the team I've been GMing for....it works for me |

Start with a league with this year's rosters in 5 years most of the players will be gone and by 10 years there will only be a couple left, but you will know what is going on by then. The real players only give you something to start with and maybe have an interest in.

I started my fictional league based on a post I saw soon after v5 released. I create myself in the leagues' first amatuer draft and then sim my entire career. A year of two after I retired, I began my Manager Mode Career. Now I have a history in the league and you kind of get to know some of "your former teammates". Makes it a bit easier to get into for me.

I used to have the same problem, but since 5 has come out I've been preety good about keeping up my intrest. Some sugestions that have helped me:
1)become attached to your players, especialy high picks and young prospects 2)dont try to know the stats of all the players in the league, know your players and maybe the top stars, with the almanac you can always go back to see when a player was drafted and past stats 3)Cato's History utility has added alot to my league 4)when you find your self tired with a league stick it out, maybe trade for a player you will want to watch, usualy if you stay with it you will get back into good luck

I had the same prob with the OOTP3 leagues I kept starting. My "solution" with OOTP5 is this: select abt 16 teams worth of "favorite" MLB'ers from history, use them for the first season (understanding the career curve will be significantly different). I feel it will make the intergration of "fictional" players easier to take if I "know" 90% of the players already. By the time my originals phase out, I should "know" the fictionals too.

I don't manage any one particular team in my fictional league. What I've been doing is to manage one team for 3 games (uaually a series), then moving on to the next team, and so on. I sim the other games, while I'm playing "my" teams games. I've come to know a lot about all of the teams (and, a lot of the players) that way. And, like others in this thread have advised...patience!

I usually only stick with a fictional for about 10 years. It is around that time that "stars" of the league began to retire and I have to get to know everyone all over again.

to me, learning who the star is, is one the most fun part of the game.

The player tracker feature is helpful. I like to track all my first round draft picks long after i move to manageing another team. I'll also track a few of the established stars that I've previopusly managed.

Funny, I posted a very similar thing a couple of months ago. I'm still having the problem. Whenever I think I have a good idea for a new league, I set it up and start. A few days later, I get another brilliant idea and start that one instead. I can't deal with running multiple leagues at a time, and I really dislike going back to leagues I haven't used in a while. I must have started at least 200 leagues since OOTP2.
Someone mentioned the Federal League above. I actually did that once and it lasted about 50 years before I got tired of that one. It's the longest I've ever gone with an OOTP league. I think the problem is that I get too many "good" ideas for leagues and I can never just choose one to go with. I guess I'm addicted to starting leagues.

Maybe you should ask for a special interface that disables the Create New Leagues options.

I think thats its very unrealistic that you can just start a league whenever you want. When does this happen in real life??
