Save??
How is this a save? New Orleans won 5-1 and the pitcher that got the save faced 1 batter in the ninth.

If Houma came in with two on or the bases loaded, it would be a save. I do believe that MLB rules state that if the RP comes in with the tying run on deck, it is a save situation.

YEs there were two men on - but the tying run wasn't at the plate. I thought about too but even if the batter he faced would have homered - it would have still been 5-4.
hmmmmmmmmm

(a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
(b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces); or (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game. |

The save rules have to be one of the most misunderstood by most baseball fans.

And yet MLB got rid of the GWRBI and not the SAVE...
