Free Agency for Perfect Drafts?
I don't know if this has been suggested before, but it would be really neat to have a free agency period after completing a perfect draft. Below I'll describe one way to implement it, but there are other options as well -- the point is that whatever free agency looks like, players get one last chance to fix a major draft failure and give a real chance to a team that would otherwise not be competitive.
Often it's just one card that really needs to be replaced. Maybe the player needs to dump a loser of a card that was desperately picked to fill a role. Or maybe the draft failure is an omission -- a missing critical backup or additional pitcher. Whatever the failure, usually just one change is needed to save the team from disaster. So maybe free agency allows players to select one card to replace, with it being any tier except perfect and diamond(?). The player is then allowed to pick a replacement from a new set of cards having the same tier as the card to be replaced. However, the new cards are all in the bottom half of card value in their teir (i.e., 90-94, 80-84, 70-74, 60-64, 40-49). That way, free agency is not abused to improve teams with new chances at the most premium cards. Ideally, the free agency set of cards would have a good mix of positions available, maybe 1-2 each of IF, OF, SP, C.
The main benefit of all this is that when players make a mistake or get unlucky in a draft, they won't feel like they've wasted the last 15 minutes drafting a team that is destined to fail. That's probably the most frustrating element of PD at this point. And while I'm suggesting this as a fix to my frustrations, it's worth noting that even if you ignore all that, a free agency feature would be interesting enough all on its own, as a new strategic element that extends PD gameplay.
