missing players

I started a historical replay, with minors, for the 1956 season. Right off the bat I noticed that the following players were missing not only from the LA Angels' roster and from the Chicago Cubs' organization, but from the sim. They were nowhere to be found:

Dick Drott - pro debut in 1954 w Cedar Rapids; 1956 w LAA
Casey Wise - pro debut in 1953 w Sioux Falls; 1956 w LAA
Joe Hannah - pro debut in 1950 w Visalia & LAA; spent 1956 w LAA
Bob Coats - pro debut in 1948 w Elizabethton; spent 1956 w LAA

Settings: Import Complete History, no historical transactions...

I moved forward with the sim to see what might happen: Drott and Wise appeared as free agents in early Oct 1956, before the World Series, apparently at the conclusion of the 1956 PCL championship series.
But still no Hannah or Coats. By 1/1/57, neither Hannah or Coats had appeared in the game.

I fast-forwarded to 1/1/57 to see if these guys had imported by then. Nope. Same for 1/1/58.

So I started a new sim, with the 1950 season, and looked for these same guys. Drott & Wise weren't there, as expected (since they debuted later). But Hannah & Coats were there. All good at this point...
And then Wise debuted for the 1953 season, and Drott did for 1954.
So again, all good. But I don't understand why none of these guys were in my 1956 league.

Any idea what's going on here?

In another test that I started with the 1916 season, then let the game run until the beginning of 1921, I found these players missing:

Howard Lindimore & Red Baldwin (career minor leaguers, never played majors)
Tony Lyons

The above is by no means a comprehensive list of missing players. It's merely a few that I happened to notice were missing.

Anyone have any idea what's up here? Is this maybe a bug of sorts?
