Meet the Amarillo Armadillos (PBE)

Hello everyone, my name is DoubleDub and I'm a member of the Pro Baseball Experience (PBE) which is a sim league run in OOTP.

Below is a little team profile for the Minor League team (Amarillo Armadillos) as we progress through the first week of our season.

Its not too late to join, any new creates will be placed on waivers in the Minors and you will be able to contribute this season plus be eligible for Majors draft at the end of this season.

Amarillo is coming off an up and down year where they missed the playoffs by two games. With a number of players drafted high in the Major League Draft they will be hoping to push for the playoffs as these players are still in the Minor Leagues until their parent franchise requires their services.

Without further ado, let's start with the Front Office.

Front Office

GM - Zodiac.exe

The head of the Dillos, Zodiac is relatively new to the role but you wouldn't know it the way he handles himself and how the Dillos performed in the draft.

When asked about the Dillos chances this season Zodiac was characteristically coy as he said:

"It's going to be a chaotic season. I'm not expecting us to dominate, so the goal is to make the playoffs and create a deep run from there. We have a few veterans ready to mix it up, but I believe our difference-makers are going to be the rookies.

Co GM - Bazooka Joe

Bazooka Joe or the Zook as he is affectionately known, Zook has moved on from the Minors and is now an established member for the World Champion Nashville Stars.

Zook is a valuable part of the Amarillo front office and was heavily involved in scouting during the most recent draft.

Zook has kept his apartment in Amarillo for the rookies to use while they get acclimatised to the team. Let me tell you, relief pitchers are weird dudes.

Im not sure why there is a bottle labelled 'Zook's special stuff' in the cupboard and we haven't been able to figure out exactly what's in the bottle but at this point we think it's Olive Oil and protein powder. Anyway better to move on I think.

Pitchers

SP Jeronimo Ovechkin

The veteran (2nd year with the Dillos) of the starting rotation. Ovechkin was selected in the first round of the most recent Major League Draft by the Boise Raptors. We aren't sure how much longer we will have Jeronimo for before Boise pull the trigger and get the diminutive righty up to the bigs. He is a pleasure to have in the locker room, and we are looking forward to him making hitters look silly with that nasty Circle Change (this pitch may become a common theme)

What does Ovechkin think about the season that is in front of the Dillo's-

"We are reaching the playoffs and we are going to have a top 2 offense this year. I'm telling you, we're about so score so many runs this year--and it's going to make me look pretty good."

SP Johnny Patey V2

Patey V2 will be getting the nod to follow Ovechkin in the rotation, the Dillo's made Johnny the first pitcher selected in Minor League Draft when they selected him 4th overall.

Patey V2, like the rest of the Dillos holds himself to a high standard. He currently has set a sub 4 ERA and 8 wins as his goals for this season.

SP Anthony Simmons II

Simmons II was another draft selection (the second of three rookies in the rotation) and he somehow fell to the Dillos at number 13 in the draft.

Anthony works a cutter with a complementary knuckle curve and a plus circle change, after a strong spring he is ready to go for the Dillos.

SP Wayne Wheeler

Yours truly, hailing from Australia. Another pitcher rocking a plus circle change along with a Slider and sinker to round out the repertoire.

Wheeler was snapped up by the Dillos at pick 14, in his (unbiased) draft recap assistant GM Bazooka Joe announced that the Dillos got the three best starting pitchers in the draft.

Aiming to bounce back from a rough spring, Wheeler will toe the rubber as the 4th starter but get the home opener when the Dillos host the Chicago Kingpins (red hot favourites for the Eastern Division).

RP Crabstin d'Potson

The Dillos were extremely lucky when d'Potson fell into their laps, when d'Poston joined the league the draft had just happened but the Dillos had the top waiver priority.

They quickly jumped on d'Poston who moonlights as the Providence Crabs (Very Strong Major League team and explains the name) General Manager.

Crabstin d'Potsin has a simple goal for this season 'Be the best reliever in the minors'. With control and stuff like his, I'm sure he will be finishing off a lot of wins this season.

Infielders/Catchers

Zodiac Bluesky

The team captain behind the dish,as a member of the Cancun Toros organisation this could be Zodiac's last season with the Dillo's.

Coming off a strong campaign that netted him the Catcher gold glove and the silver slugger, where will this season take Bluesky (we hope not to 2B where he committed 15 Errors in 60 starts only two seasons ago).

Now that he has a young rotation to mentor im sure that he will have more impact than usual and be a serious contender for the Minor League MVP.

So what did Zodiac have to say prior to this season beginning:

"I'll probably be heading to Cancun next season, but the Dillos are always going to have a special place in my heart. I walked into a championship-winning team, and I want to leave behind the same for the Dillos who come after."

Ian Degon

Joining Bluesky behind the dish this season but probably seeing more at bats at the DH spot is Ian Degon.

Degon was my battery mate in the prospect league, the Venezuelan native has cannons for arms and tree trunks for legs. When he wasn't throwing out would be base stealers he was swatting dingers with ease.

This continued into Spring Training where Ian made sure to make the baseball Degon (sorry im working on it).

JewThe TheJew

TheJew or Josh is a monster at the plate and this was apparent when the Indianapolis Apex snapped him up at 2 overall in the most recent Major League Draft.

Josh has invested in some new equipment and has made it no secret that he has one thing on his mind. Dingers. He wants the Minor League Home Run record and he isn't afraid to go get it.

He is odds on favourite to win the Minor League MVP this season and to carry the Dillos to the playoffs.

Jake Mitchell

Mitchell is another player that has just been drafted into the Major Leagues with the New York Voyagers getting the defensive wizard at pick 29.

Fresh off a gold glove campaign as a rookie third basemen, Mitchell will be in the heart of the order as the Dillo's rely on his bat and his glove this season.

After his first Minor League Home Run he was heard saying the following to anyone that would listen: "Train Hard. Play Hard."

I'm looking forward to having Mitchell vacuum everything up behind me.

Tommy Olson

How did Tommy O fall to 29th in the most recent Minor League Draft, the smooth moving middle infielder is an asset to the lineup wherever Zodiac decides to deploy him. 2 hits, 2 Walks and 4 steals over the last two spring training games shows that opposing pitchers can't overlook Tommy just because he doesn't possess the pop to deposit long balls.

Watch for Tommy to be a menace on the basepaths and end up with 30 plus steals.

Outfielders

Franklin DeMars

Franklin DeMars was another first round draft pick (13th overall) in the most recent Major League Draft, joining fellow Dillo Jake Mitchell in New York.

DeMars hit for .319 last season and is expected to hold down the 2 hole in the Amarillo line up. Having reached the Minor League all-star game last season, this season will no doubt lead to the same result for Franklin.

Pelle Schuldiner

Schuldiner was the 10th overall pick by the Dillos in the recent Minor League Draft, Pelle has a dangerous combination of speed and power that should see him have a 15/15 season at least.

Schuldiner is tabbed to hold down the 5th spot in the order for the Dillos currently. Hitting behind TheJew, Demars and Mitchell will give Schuldiner a lot of opportunities to drive runners home.

Rounding out the Amarillo roster are some bots and inactive players to alleviate some of the fatigue on the active players.

If you have any questions about Amarillo then please feel free to reach out to me and I am happy to answer your questions.

Also, please give Bazooka Joe's Minor League Draft rankings a read, it's a really entertaining and informative piece. It is linked below:
