Random Debut, I messed up aging
Basically I outsmarted myself and messed up my league.
I don’t like having players stick around until they are 39-40 when in real life they were out of the game by age 26-27 or earlier. I play 3 yr recalc with development obviously on. Well I had this silly idea that the aging setting has no bearing as long as the player is in his recalc season. So I wondered what would happen if I set the aging to something high like 3.000.
Yep started a Random League in 1901 with aging set at 3.000. My league starts with players that were playing IRL in 1895-1900. I did a fast sim test for 25 years using 1984 as a base, then went in to check leaderboard and all looked good. Checked historical Batting average and every year was right around .260 and HRs were right on.
So on to my real game with the 3.000 aging setting. In 1912 noticed that Honus Wagner’s BA was pretty low but that happens so on to 1913. Half way through and his Batting Average is .220. I go to his page and opened the players editor. Checked his stat output for modern setting and it was as expected. I then checked his ratings and they were BAD. I checked Lajoie and same as Wagner. Figured they aging setting affects a players rating even though player is still in his recalc years.
Restarted in 1901 using 1.000 for aging, fast sim to 1913. Wagner (and Lajoie) BA was about as expected and their ratings were as expected based on their real life stats.
So I learned something. I usually start a league from scratch when the new game comes out so I guess this was a good time to discover my stupid error. But what do I do for the next 20 days???
