Most Lopsided AS Game Ever ???
Ok someone beat this one. I almost fell outta the chair watching this game play out.
South Divison Routes North All Stars 22-2 April 24th, 2003 Lincolns Bobby Madritsch and St. Paul's Billy Canter squared off in what was going to be the first in a long line of revamped Northern League All-Star games. The festivities kicked off this the Home Run derby which will be dicussed later, but on Tuesday July 15th the NLB's finest gathered in Schaumberg, Illinois to partake in the festivities. All the fun for the North Division ended with about the 2nd batter that the South Division brought to the plate. Billy Canter recorded just 5 outs while giving up 7 runs on 7 hits, but the South wasnt done there. At the end of 2 they had a 9-0 lead and were steaming towards an inaugural win and initial bragging rights for the league. Fast forward to the 5th inning when the South plated 3 more runs off of a pair of HR from Joliet's Julio Bacote and Harry Berrios. So at the end of 4and a half the South held a 12-0 lead. The North finally broke through in the bottom of the 5th with it's first and only runs of the ballgame.Kansas City's Todd Beier and Fargo's Damien So would plate the only runs for the North, while the pitching woes continued. If Billy Canter's numbers sounded bad then Duluth-Superior's Matt Gilpin's numbers looked downright horrid. He recored a measly 4 outs while 9 hits and 9 earned runs. KC's Richard Esparza finally stopped the madness with two scoreless innings to end the game. When the hit parade was over the South had some gaudy numbers. Joliet's Julio Bacote went 4-4 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. Gary's Adam Allison went 3-6 with 3 runs batted in, and 'The Grinch" Maurice Otten of Schaumberg hit a pinch hit 3 run HR in the 7th. Lincoln's Bobby Madritsch went 3 strong innings giving up 4 hits and a walk while striking out 6. In this inagural 22-2 slaughter the South Division took the first step in stealing the thunder away from the North in the bragging rights department. We talked to Julio Bacote after the game and this is what he had to say, " I didnt expect it to be like this. I knew that there was a good amount of talent on the South squad. I think we just caught their guys on a bad day. It was a good experience to get together with these guys on this kind of stage. Hopefully I will make a return trip or two," he smiled. " |

Holy crap! The D-Backs send three position players to the mound, and Grace (who actually pitched in a game in the MLB...cool) absorbs the pounding, throwing over 220 pitches. Wow!
