Game keeps overwriting custom files
I am a modder ... a great feature of OOTP.
I change namesets, nations, ballparks, etc. But OOTP 22 keeps putting everything back everytime the game starts. For example, I customized the names_english.txt file. Replaced the OOTP version with mine, and started a game. The next time I started the game, the "installing game" sequence started, and lo and behold, the OOTP file was now where my custom file was. What gives? I'd very much like to start this league, but I need to customize the game's database files, something I've always been able to do before. I am running the latest version of OOTP on a Mac. |

No one has experienced this? Unfortunately the game is unplayable if I cannot figure out why this is happening, as it cannot be modified.
UPDATE: I think I have figured it out. The game requires certain files be present in each subfolder. This seems different than in earlier versions (at least 2019). If a folder has a _readme.txt file, it cannot be removed (backgrounds, ballcaps, jerseys, logo_templates, logos, pictures, etc.) The ballparks folder must include the three default_ files (default_diagram.png, default_grass.jpg, and default_turf.jpg). If any of these files are missing, the game will initiate its game file loading procedure upon start and reset the entire file structure, including overwriting any modified files in the database folder. This behavior existed as far back as OOTP 18, as far as I'm aware.
