Various suggestions for OOTP23

I notice this board doesn't exist under the OOTP22 forum structure, so I'll go here instead. These suggestions range between much-needed updates on features that have been in the game for years, to enhanced customisation options.

Updated news system
This is the big one, I didn't buy 21 until it was on sale because I was so frustrated at the lack of updates to this part of the game. I got 22 on release day because I had a project in mind but this is a part of the game that desperately needs a refresh - I'd say we've been looking at basically the same news format for a decade.

My idea is for enhanced subscription and customisation options. I'd be happy to map this out in more detail if developers are interested but changes might include:

- Ability to subscribe to particular teams or leagues (instead of just your league or the entire world)
- More options to subscribe to subcategories - for instance, I would like to know about no hitters/perfect games, but not at the expense of having to get all the stories about somebody throwing 15 strikeouts. Let me choose which achievements generate a news story.
- Option to set retirement news by player popularity level and injury news via popularity level or severity.
- News items on retiring managers
- End of season summary of teams changing cities/nicknames/stadiums etc...
- Option for a 'transaction log' mode that just shows raw news without the stories and additional text (I'm sure anyone who has played for long enough is sick of reading about how it hasn't rained in Texas for months...)
- Observer mode, where you can get news from a particular league without having to 'act as' GM/manager of a team.

Records
- More team records (longest winning streak, longest scoring streak, consecutive team HRs etc…)
- Ability to filter statistics by different major leagues (Currently all MLs are treated as one
- Decade and/or era specific leaderboards and news stories to match (how many times do I need to know the all-time win leader has a figure modern players can never match?)
- Extended team leaderboards, have 100 options instead of 10. (Why not just mirror the overall leaderboard format?)
- Era specific HOF criteria without having to manually change each season (e.g. 300 wins not as impressive in a three starter era)
- Don't show players in a league Hall of Fame if they weren't inducted for playing in that league (e.g. a player who spends 19 years in MLB then plays one at bat in another ML will show in the second league's HOF as well)
- For a no-hitter or perfect game, show many times the player has achieved the feat
- Add division, and league championships to team history list

Editing
- A pre-game editor. I can't say how useful this would be as somebody who likes to use player birthplaces for custom tournaments. Would also help create custom leagues without having to do them in game and lose them when you start over.
- Bulk editing of nationality/City of Birth/Bats/Throws/Position/Popularity etc...
- Option to neutralize all park factors for a single league only (currently does all parks in database)
- Ability to bulk edit park factors
- Image preview when selecting logos or player photos

Database
- Enhance the list of place names in the database so every major league player's birthplace loads correctly, instead of showing as 'unknown'
- Allow players to be identified by their state rather than their city of birth - this would make sure the players born in lesser-known places are at least shown with some place or birth rather than 'unknown'
- A lot of minor league players with birthplaces in Baseball Reference don't have them in the game (NB: These issues could be solved by letting players edit the database)
- Option to have historical minor leaguers in random debut games
- Market size bases on the cities rather than the teams (e.g any team in NY should have a huge market, but the benefit scales based on what level they’re playing at and how well they're going)
- Option to mass export all teams in league (e.g. names/logos/stadiums) and then mass reimport into another game
- Ensure Cuban players born before Cuba was a nation are not shown as American. Players born in the Austro-Hungarian empire are just shown as Austrian so it's not a tremendous historical stretch to show these guys as Cuban.

Awards
- Optional age/ML service time rules for rookie of the year
- Option to choose one award winner to cover the entire league (e.g. no AL/NL specific awards)

Leagues
- League specific trade preferences
- Additional tiebreakers instead of games (runs scored, run differential, lowest payroll, record in division etc...)
- Option on how to break multiple team ties (I don't think it even follows MLB rules at the moment)
- Ability to tie financials for leagues to certain MLB years within a range (e.g. to be 20 years behind, but without having to do this manually every season)
- Ability to lock certain strategies in historical play (e.g. let them all follow real life except force teams to play with five starters without having to edit manually every season)

Players
- Hover over abbreviation to show full team name in real life stats
- More mid-season retirements, especially when a once great player has been reduced to the minor league circuit
- Option for different award icons for different leagues.
- Option to filter career stats by a particular major league or subleague
- A bit more nuance on how to treat 'wrecked' players. Instead of persecuting them with major injuries every year they should have more performance drop-off and minor injuries after reaching that status.

General suggestions
- Keyboard shortcut for continue to next day
- Optional age rules for tournament teams
- Allow minor leagues and minor league teams to be affiliated to tournament teams (For instance, to allow a series between the leagues or a Best of MILB vs MLB Under 23s series)
- Allow free agent draft to be tied to standings without current workaround (change number of rounds, choose serpentine draft, then choose straight draft again)
- Option to set the season refresh date to a particular point, rather than (as is now) the day after the last in-game league finishes.

Added after original post
- Option to set dates for League Association playoff. Sometimes happens right after the two leagues end, sometimes happens about two weeks later.
- Treat league association playoff scores/box scores like normal playoffs. At the moment you have to go to one of the team schedules just to see the score. There are no series stats available.
