Historical - difference between OOTP and Baseball Ref

I have noticed at least 1 significant difference between Baseball Reference adjusted stats and OOTP in game “Real Life Stats”

Daryle Ward has a career -4.5 WAR and 95 OPS+ on Baseball Reference, but on OOTP he has 8.6 WAR and 107 OPS+

Does OOTP use a different formula for WAR and OPS+ than Baseball Ref? It would appear so, does anybody know what the difference specifically is/where they pull it from? Fangraphs?

Also - for a recalc league, I would assume the game will follow the OOTP stats, not the BBRef stats. Does anybody have any experience with this?

The developers have definitely stated that their WAR formula is slightly different than bWAR or fWAR. I do not believe that they have specifically provided that formula, but I believe they have mentioned that the differences are mostly in the defensive calculation.
