It would be real hard. You'd need a guy who is extremely fast and can get on base a lot. You also would need a coach who has his coaching tendency to stealing a lot.

You can manually do it. While playing out games, I got Juan Pierre to 30 SBs in 25 games.

Sure, why not? Rickey Henderson stole 130, didn't he?

Playing live, it's not too hard. I was running a 1980 season with Terry Puhl, Ivan DeJesus, and Lee Mazzilli running nearly every chance they got. Mazzilli had at least 80 with some of the season left.

Is there a league total for steals? That would probably do it. If not, then I dont know, I havent gotten a guy over 70 in over 300 years simmed.

I wish we could turn ours down, we had 4400 SB's in our league last season. There were 2700 in MLB last season.
The league leaders were 86 and 75 |

Do you have any A/A guys in your league? If you do check and see what their ratings are, mainly looking at extra base hit ratings, guys with high D/T/HR would have a difficult time stealing alot of bases. My top 5 stolen base guys:
<pre> <fontsize="2"> 1. Billy Hamilton 97 1891 (125 games) 2. Billy Hamilton 94 1890 (120 games) 3. Billy Hamilton 88 1893 (124 games) 4. Bid McPhee 79 1886 (119 games) 5. Billy Hamilton 78 1892 (120 games) </pre></fontsize> During Hamilton's 1891 season he had 154 singles and 75 walks wchich game him lots of opprotunities to steal a base. Messing with the extra base hits totals can have some effects on your leaguewide stolen base totals, since there are more people staying at 1st base there are more chances to steal second. You'll definitly want to back up your league prior to messing with the league totals. |

I did it in OOTP4 in challenge mode as the Brewers, with the Luis Castillo-alike "Delmar Miller", in game year 2002. 116 stolen bases, 45 caught. He had a .408 OBP, and I ran him nearly every chance I could.

Angelin, great stuff!!! That may be the reason we had so many SB's. There were only 7400 doubles when there were 8700 in MLB. I got the league totals straightened out to bring the doubles up to that area this year. I guess I can also expect to see the SB's come down a little bit as a result.

You could look at it like that.. or everytime he steals he gets into scoring position and makes it easier to drive him in.
I bet we could check on his runs and it would be in the 130's. |

1/3 doesn't really justify the stolen base. Yes it could kill the big inning, but it could also open up a "bigger" inning. It is a risk and reward type thing. I just see it worth more than 1/3..

A stolen base doesn't open up a bigger inning really. It's a one-run strategy, like a sacrifice bunt. The runner tries to move up a base to get closer to home, increasing his chance of scoring, but that certainly does nothing for the runners after him which are necessary to have a big inning.
And if the runner gets caught, it loses the chance at one run, and further decreases the chances of a big inning. The stolen base is a one-run strategy. |

It can be used for both. A person who steals and has great ability makes the pitcher worry about the hitter a little less. Allowing a walk, or a pitch hung over the middle. Teams that had good base runners always made our pitchers pitch worse. (High School Level)

I know we are, but are you saying having a base runner who can steal on base and will steal does not effect the pitcher at all?
