Question Possible Glitch - Acquire an MVP in OOTP 21

Is this a glitch?

I took over the GM/Manager role for the Anaheim Angels at the start of the 1997 season. I made the playoffs in ’97, ’98 and ’99, losing the World Series in 1999. Now it’s 2000 and one of the owner goals is to “Acquire a Most Valuable Player Award Winner” by 2003. At present, I already have two on my team.

Jim Edmonds won it in 1997 in my sim playing for my club (not in real life) – still a top player for me.

Rickey Henderson won one in 1990 (real life before my sim started), and is a 41-year-old backup OF/DH/pinch runner with some value, but isn’t the same player he was a decade ago.

I did a search for every active player who has won an MVP. My budget is stretched on a small-market team with a cheapskate owner, and I’ve already built a good club – any still great former MVP winners are either too high priced or would veto a trade.

Then I found free agent Jose Canseco – coming off three consecutive bad years in my sim. (43 HRs combined for all three years and a batting average under .220) He won the 1988 MVP in real life before my sim started, so I signed him for peanuts to a minor league deal. He’s doing OK down there and I plan to call him up when rosters expand. Thing is, at this juncture he’s a defensive liability and, at best, a mediocre hitter. (His ratings aren’t even as good as he was in 2000 real life, forget 1988.) I’ve already got guys I rotate in the DH slot who are better. Still, giving "The Chemist" a bit of time at the end of the year to rest the regulars won't hurt much.

Yet, under my owner goals, it says “No progress” for that one, and the owner trashed me in the midseason letter, my worst evaluation to date, lol. I now have two MVPs on my active roster, and a third I just signed after the owner gave me that goal. What gives? Will the “No Progress” disappear when I call him up? And what if there's a season ending injury?

I've had that happen. I eventually turned off owner's goals because so many of them were stupid. They're like some rich guy saw one baseball game and decided to buy a team.

Yup, it's dumb because I don't really need the player in the first place, and I don't get credit when I do exactly what they ask of me.

Have to admit OOTP has the inept meddling boss routine figured out!
