Background Overlay/Filter

I have just spent an hour or two collecting team backgrounds that I want to show behind the team screens etc. but my problem is that they are way too bright and I can't see any of the text.

I seem to remember from previous versions that this wasn't a problem.

Is there an overlay/filter that I could add to the backgrounds folder or something that would darken the backgrounds.

I know in the settings that you can change it to No Transparent Backgrounds but then that gives me a lot of black boxes behind the text so I cant see any of the backgrounds! Is there anyway to alter the transparent levels on those boxes?

You can lower the opacity or change the blend mode to lighten using a graphics program.
