Loving it! But...why the blank faces?

So far I'm loving what I see in OOTP22! But I have a question about the images in PT. Why do older cards generally have a blanked-out face? I imagine it's some sort of licensing issue? OOTP could pay MLB to use the likeness of current players but not past ones? Would an artist's rendering of an old player be acceptable?

I suppose this shouldn't come as a surprise me. I once paid $3000 to use the likeness of a movie actress from the 40s on a book cover. Her estate insisted on it. I suppose that's true of ballplayers too?
