Installation question

Does OOTP 21 require your PC to have access to the Internet in order to be installed? I am going to think the answer is "yes", but I thought I would confirm that.

I have a spare Windows 7 PC that I would prefer to keep offline due to EOL and virus issues. I could use it specifically for baseball sims. I would prefer not installing on my main Windows 10 PC, which I use for several other tasks.

The answer is yes. In 14 years of this forum, I've never gotten a virus even from the users who post mods here. I'm pretty certain that once installed, the online connection would only be required for PerfectTeam. The game will run successfully inside Virtual Box, you know. I do it on my Mac when I feel like testing a theory out.

I wasn't concerned about getting a virus from the game itself. Just from being connected to the Internet with Windows 7. It's too bad the Linux version of the game wasn't on sale. I have two spare computers with Linux Mint installed that would have been ideal for this setup.

you could download the game onto a USB stick from your main computer, but you'd need to be online to active the license, so at least initially, yes, you'd need to be online. Also, any updates would require a connection as well. But as far as playing the game, no you do not need to be on line to do so, except for Perfect Team (and possibly Challenge Mode).

That's probably what I figured I would need to do. I will clear out the spare PC's hard drive to remove anything I don't want on there. I left it untouched as a backup in case my transition to Windows 10 didn't go smoothly. It's now been a bit over a year on Windows 10, so I can delete whatever I don't need. I probably should have gone with the free upgrade to Windows 10 on that spare PC, but that ship has sailed.

Well, I found out earlier today that Microsoft is still allowing the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 for free (Win 7 Home -> Win 10 Home; Win 7 Pro -> Win 10 Pro). Mind you, they tried everything during the upgrade install process to get me to register with them so that I could tie my Windows accounts online. Thankfully, I managed to get around that.

So, now my old Win 7 Pro PC has been upgraded to Win 10 Pro. It's an older Core i7 with 8GB RAM and 1TB hard drive. That should be sufficient to get me started with OOTP 21.
