I was thinking about it the other day while playing a little solo action as the Pirates (I try to find a challenge) and I was curious:
When do you guys start to bring up your prospects? What do you look for in overall stats and ratings? When is Good at the peak to bring them up and not hamper their ability to improve? When do you think they can preform? Let's hear from some experts on this one...

I tend to bring them up when I think they can probably outperform the bozo in the big league club who has just lost his last 5 decsions or who has just gone 1 for 20 with 12 K's.
It's a simplistic answer, but I bring them up whenever I think they can improve the main club regardless of whether I think they are at their peak or not. In terms of stats - I look for stats that would impress me were they stats at the major league level (B ave's over 300, OBAVE around .200 - .240). Logically, they will peform worse/much worse at the major league level so the stats at AAA should be top-notch for it to be worth the risk. |

I bring up hitters when they reach 4-5 (AVG rated hitters) or 5-6 (GOOD rated hitters). I bring up pitchers when they reach anywhere from 2-6, depending on my needs, their role, and their talent levels. I find relievers are more common in the game than SP's so their ratings will usually have to be higher before I bring them up. For me it also partially depends on what the development speed of the league is like - the historical leagues I have been involved in have different player development patterns than fictional leagues so I take that into account. (Note that the key player ratings I refer to mean "Getting Hits" for batters and "Avoiding Runs" for pitchers).
I consider the majors the 4th development step for the players, so leaving them in AAA too long can hurt them, while bringing them up too early can also hurt them. That's one of the most fun decisions in the game IMO. |

I agree with killbrew. Say a hitter is Good Hits, Avg 2b, Good HR, Good BB and Good K then I'd bring him up when he is 5h, 42b, 5hr, 5bb, 5k I think at that point he will perform and finish developing properly. In a online league I signed a stud to a 10yr 15mil a year contract but he was not quite developed so I sent him down for a couple months to finish developing and then he came up and hit 367 13hr 13trip and 49sbs his ratings are good, avg, bril, bril and bril but when I signed him he was 5, 4, 3, 4, 6 and now is 6, 4, 6, 8, 8(that is h, 2b, hr, bb, k). So minors did him well and if I sign a guy that is not developed I will send him down for a while to develop. Hope this helps you some.

As a general rule, I always wait until I absolutely have to bring someone up to do it unless their ratings are higher than my current active players. Once you bring a guy up, the clock starts ticking on his contract. That always makes me hold off as long as possible.

That's actually another argument to keep ratings. Someone on another string wanted to eliminate ratings, I disagree. This is an example where you need them. With prospects in the minors, especially at the beginning of a season, you have nothing else to go on to determine whether or not to give the guy a shot in the bigs.
