More Waivers

I am continuing to torture test the waivers system and have made a whole cottage industry out of grabbing guys up (anyone with 2.5 stars) and immediately stashing them in the AHL. I then hold a fire sale at the trade deadline, picking up 4ths and 3rds. At the draft, I can usually use those picks to trade up.

Two things I immediately noted:

1) If I claim a player from waivers, I must keep him on my NHL team for what I believe is 10 games (please double check that) before I can send him down;

2) If I want to trade him anytime in the same season, I am required to offer him back to his original team first.

The waivers system is really complex, but I hope this can be coded into a future update.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how this is an issue, or anything they should be investing time in.

As long as the AI doesn't abuse this, it's easy for the user to not do so, and therefore, it's not something that would affect your save in any way UNLESS you choose to make it so. Seems like there are things they'd be better served spending time on.

Just my opinion though, and maybe I'm alone.

Actually agree, none of these management games ever for any sport has had great AI and you need to play them with house rules for yourself unfortunately. I can guarantee i win the cup 10 years in a row by using waivers and free agency with a trade from time to time. Each year its easy to get myself top 2 or 3 picks in every draft.

Best to spend time on AI vs. AI interaction as anything else has never really improved anything for taking advantage of the AI.

First house rule is dont pick anyone up on waivers. Its always been the easiest way to take advantage of things. Waiver players for draft picks.

Fair enough, but the FHM crew have tried hard to get as much right about the draft, scouting, financial models and so much else, these don't seem like huge fixes, at least not for the NHL. I guess if they have to create different code for the specific rules of each league, I agree that it's sufficiently picayune that they could leave it for FHM11.

Easy. Forcing myself to not use logical tools to squad built is immersion breaking.

I put Matthews, Anderson, Rielly and Nylander on waivers and none of them got picked up. I guess house rules say I should go to the last place team and edit their contract to them?

I honestly don't care so much about the game being realistic but I do care about it playing out realistically. I like the option of not being able to trade 1st round picks. The game needs more settings like that so we can somewhat control the dumb AI.

Correct. The main reason I stop playing console sport games where I would mainly play AI vs AI or sim in my franchise was because of the many “house rules” I had to apply. It eventually came to having to control every team...

Now these same AI problems are starting to make its way into these sport simulation games. Football Manager is a culprit as well.

Hard coding certain things im all for also or giving us an options screen for the AI that will block certain things from happening but then again can the AI handle being hamstrung with things being blocked it cant do. Probably some stuff but most it would hurt it. AI isnt smart enough yet overall not just this game, any game.

Like i said house rules are unfortunate but cant be avoided in these types of games, if it could be fixed it would have in the last 30 years but AI isnt there yet. Im not knocking anybody about it should be fixed and stuff but certain things just cant be. If it was that easy it would have been. What works for the player and what works for the AI bump heads all the time when working for each other.
