Tweaks in the trading engine

Hi, I apologize if this has been brought up before, but I can not read all the suggestion threads. I played OOTP a long time ago, just bought the current version a few days ago, and it's a much better game now.
I really love it.

However, the season I am playing now, I am in first place, it is around trade deadline time. The AI has stuffed the trading block with guys available. I like this. However, I am trying to trade for a 3rd string SS to have on my reserve roster, just in case I have injuries. So I have gone through the trading block, trying to pick up a SS that is not that great just for depth. The AI is just too demanding.

For example, there's a team that is in "red" for CF, that has a 34 year old SS that is a pending FA on the trading block. I offer them a 23 year old CF that is definitely better than their current backup CF, he's young and has a lot of years of control, and was a starter for a few years in the real world MLB. I offer to pay all his salary. All I am asking for is a 34 year old SS that is on the trading block, is a pending FA, on a team that has no chance to make the playoffs, and is on their reserve list.

The AI asks me to sweeten the deal. I toss in 3 low level prospects, that just makes the AI dislike the deal even more.. I mean, in the real world, a losing team would team would love to dump a 34 year old SS that is a pending FA for a 23 year old CF with starter upside. Things like this get me frustrated, and I just start to push "Force trade" (which I don't want to do) , or I just give up on trading for a few days.

Second comment, the trade offers I get in my mail box are ludicrous.
I wouldn't mind it if 1 out of 10 was actually plausible, but every one I've gotten is just insane. As if I am going to trade my 4 star starting position player for an older 2 star player.. I mean, come on.. So I am going to look for a setting to turn off AI trade offers, or just ignore them all, because they are just spam.

Lastly "the make this deal work now" button is completely useless. No matter who you are trading for, the AI just asks for your 5-8 best players. Completely unrealistic and I don't even bother using this function.

I want to end by saying, I really love the game and will continue to play it and recommend it, just wanted to offer suggestions.

Well said, Paul. I have encountered the same problems in the first year as the general manager in a historical league (I created a historical league, and auto-played 2 seasons prior to this season) in which I am trying to rebuild a team.

Just throw in an annoying Asst. GM messaging me once a week to say that a 21-year old Barry Bonds or minor leaguer Jose Canseco are two players that our team should look into trading for to improve--yeah, thanks a bunch Mr. brilliant Asst.

There is a setting, where you can turn off coaches. I think that's it. I turned it off because, to me, it's not fun getting into a bidding war for the best pitching coach, etc.. Anyhow, a nice side benefit of turning off coaches is that it eliminates the useless assistant GM. There's also a setting I found that tells the game when to notify you for emails. I set mine to only notify me for injuries. So now I don't get a notification for a dumb trade offer.

Note, I would not mind the ludicrous trade offers if occasionally one actually made sense. For example, I'm a rebuilding team, someone offers me a "B" prospect for one of my starting pitchers.. Or I'm a contender, someone asks me for a "B" prospect for a veteran that can help me. But it's annoying when the AI asks me to trade the best player on my team for a 4th OF. If I got 2 or 3 reasonable trade offers a year, and let's say maybe a dozen silly ones, then it would be worth reading that email. As the game stands today.. a complete waste of time to read those emails.
