Career Calc

We currently had 1,3 and 5 year recalc.. All are great options, but let's face it, Ted Williams didn't suddenly forget how to play baseball in 1943 and remain unable to do so until the beginning of the 1946 season. Nor did he suddenly forget how to play again in 1952. A guy like Chris Carpenter goes 51-18 from 2004-2006, gets hurt, misses 2 seasons and then returns to form in 2009. For the purposes of OOTP, I would at times rather see him continue according to his career numbers, rather than have him become a bullpen filler for two seasons. I have a feeling the AI would benefit in a huge way from this as well, as it would be able to see a historical players full potential.

You have the option to not have players skip the seasons they missed in real life. You can also use the development engine with recalc to let the development engine take over if players have missing seasons in the database. Otherwise, the game will keep their ratings the same as they were for the last database season that was used to compute them. So I guess I don't see much of an issue here.

But I have repeatedly requested an optional feature to allow the AI to "see" a historical player's full remaining career value for the purposes of drafting and transactions. This would allow the AI to be competitive with the human GM in historical games where only recalc is used. But so far this feature hasn't been added.

I love your idea.

I guess what I'm asking for might not be doable, because the game simply has no way of knowing why a player missed a season or two. It clearly has no way of knowing why a player only played in a months worth of games either. I do know the old Neutered stats database, OOTP16 and earlier, used to provide filler stats for guys like Williams and DiMaggio
and this was great for countering the make bad settings during the war years.

It's theoretically possible to come up with an optional feature that would allow OOTP to adjust and compensate for missed or partially missed seasons, as you prefer, much like it does with adjustments for players below certain IP or AB thresholds. But it would require compiling a complete history of all injuries, transactions, lineup decisions and all conceivable indicators to allow the game to "know" why any player ever missed a season or game.

Barring that, recalc and development generally take care of these things, or you can use a modified database such as the one you mentioned. But in a perfect world, the OOTP AI would be a singularity that would know all things about all players and every moment in baseball history, so it could intelligently adjust and compensate for all anomalies.

You need to use 5yr recalc and set batters to 154/67 and pitchers to 17/14. These numbers may seem low but remember they get multiplied by 5 and for SP those innings get multiplied again by 4. Set pitcher stamina based on entire career. Be sure to disable player development during the season.
