2024 Detroit Tigers (Motor City Rebuild)

Hello I’m Price Bishop and I’ll be the GM/Manager of the Detroit Tigers. This team interests me due to the fact it’s been 9 seasons since their last playoff appearance, tying them for the longest such streak with the LAA. Also I’m in a dynasty fantasy baseball league and I own a few Detroit players, most notable being Tarik Skubal. I don’t have any “house rules” but will try and keep the game close to realistic as possible, biggest example of this would be not cheesing the AI trade logic and just over trading in general as that’s not reflective of how baseball organizations are run. I will be playing out every game myself to ensure the team plays the way I want and that my players are being used appropriately and as envisioned.

Here’s your 2024 Detroit pitching staff led by 27yo lefty ace Tarik Skubal. He came back last season from an injury and finished strong with a 2.80 ERA in 80.1 IP.

Here’s your 2024 RHP and LHP Detroit lineups. Led by 1B Spencer Torkelson coming off a solid 2023 campaign with 31 HR. Rookie 3B Colt Keith will look to make a big impact this year vs righties as he’ll be batting cleanup. Keith is a left handed power bat that profiles better at 1B and if he can’t make improvements to his defense will more than likely switch over to the cold corner and Spencer will be moved out to the grass in LF.

For a team that’s missed 9 straight playoffs you would expect more high end young talent but unfortunately that just isn’t the case. One of the things new GM/Manager Price Bishop is known for is finding the best young talent and utilizing them properly and getting the most out of their potential. The cupboard is relatively empty but in time the system will be loaded with young talent and the organization will reap the rewards for decades to come.

MLB #7 RHP Jackson Jobe 21yo (2021 1st Round Pick) There is a lot to love about Jobe. He flashes plus stuff with a 4 pitch mix and 3 of those being plus or better. Not only does he have plus stuff but he’s able to throw consistent strikes with plus control. He’ll be starting off the 2024 season at AAA but unlikely he gets a call to the big leagues this season as a little more polishing is needed and he’s yet to pitch over 100 innings in a pro season. If all goes well he has the makings of a top of the rotation arm for many years to come.

MLB #69 CF Max Clark 19yo (2023 1st Round Pick) This young man will be a teenager in all of his 2nd season so some growing pains is expected. Currently he slots in CF and has the range to remain there even at the MLB level. Right now his defensive game is ahead of his offense and may always be so throughout his career but there’s a chance he can develop into a 5 tool CF and if he can develop some power RF would he a perfect home for him to go along with his cannon of an arm.

CF Parker Meadows 24yo (2018 2nd Round Pick) Meadows is defense over bat and has the ability to be a Gold Glove CF with average offensive production. He did debut in 2023 but will begin the 2024 campaign in AAA manning RF. If he’s not capable of being an everyday starter he can certainly fill in as an OF utility capable of playing all 3 spots.

CF Jesus Pinto 16yo still very early to tell what he may or may not be but currently would be considered a poor man’s Max Clark. Solid defensive player but without any loud tools offensively. This will be his first pro season.

Game 2 Tigers lose 6-5 in 13

March 31st, 2024
Game 3 Tigers win 5-4

Unfortunate to start the season off on the losing end but at least we managed to win the finale to get our first W on the year. Up next for the 1-2 Tigers is a 3 game series at the 2-1 New York Mets.

SS Javier Baez injures his wrist making a play at short. He was replaced by Gio Urshela. Baez is day-to-day for 4 days with wrist soreness.

Just missed out on a series sweep of Oakland that could have put us over .500 but a series win is a step in the right direction. Up next for the 4-5 Tigers is a 2 game series at 6-4 Pittsburgh.

Top of the 1st with nobody on and 2 outs Colt Keith hits his first career HR off fellow rookie Paul Skenes to double the Tigers lead 2-0.

Game 2 Tigers win 6-4
An unfortunate collapse in game 1, Tigers led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th, leads to a series split and Tigers still find themselves 1 game below .500 at 5-6. Up next is a 4 game home series vs 5-6 Minnesota.

LHP Tarik Skubal placed on the 60 day IL with a torn flexor tendon (elbow). He’s expected to miss 13 months and most likely not be ready to suit back up for the Tigers till summer of 2025.
RHP Alex Faedo makes the move from the bullpen to the rotation.
