Has anyone else reached the "This is it" point?

There is a really good competitive team in my Diamond 361 league called "Don't Care Anymore". This team won two Diamond championships and made the Perfect playoffs in the past. This manager has built a decent team but has reached a point where, "This is my team and that's it, no more upgrades!". Apparently the flood FOTF players have taken over the game at the higher levels where many peak players are irrelevant..

Has anyone else reached the point where, this my team I am going with and if they win, they win. If they don't, oh well?

I still have some room to improve my FTP team without going for the crazy priced FOTF cards but I get what you are saying. For me it is about setting my expectations as I have one of those Quad-A teams which consistently gets well over a hundred wins in gold but is a 70-80 win team at Diamond. My next goal is to win a division at Diamond. I’ll consider it to be a victory to win a pennant in Diamond and will be very happy if I can catch lightning and win a championship to get a season in the PL where I'd be lucky to win fifty.

I'm free to play and I get burned out occasionally. But, even though I can't currently afford Ty Cobb, et al. my enthusiasm has actually increased. This is because when these cards dropped I had a 10 game lead on the 2nd place team in my division. That team was already better than mine, so I can't explain why my team was 10 games ahead, but that's baseball, I guess. As expected, #2 loaded up on Ty Cobb, et al. and thirty or so games later is STILL 10 games behind!!. My counter to Ty Cobb, et al. was to buy Barry Larkin!! I'm guessing these cards while looking pretty are not so overpowering as to ruin it for me.

A lot of things have changed. Tournaments seem to be roughly or even more popular than the original format with some people...And at times, I at the least take my time upgrading, expecting or noticing all the cards to come & the tendency to upgrade where except for maybe a few absolutely outstanding teams, we've proved t...Something like that...Sometimes you say or feel you don't care anymore only to find yourself caring for and about exactly what you've cared about all along.

So things have changed, yeah... But I can't say I just don't care anymore.

Not necessarily losing interest, but my current team is my team for a while. The only true upgrades needed would be for players selling for well over 250,000 PP in the AH.

I think I reached the "This is it Point" in OOTP 20 Perfect Team by mid-October. I think that will probably hold true this year too. Just wondering how long it will take to see half the teams at Diamond level sporting the topper cards. As a FTP person, I'm probably about 3 perfect card AH purchases away before I run out of points to spend on high end cards. After that it will probably just be opening up packs from tourney wins and hoping for the best in terms of luck.

I remember at least one participant accomplishing his goals in the last version & having a sort of 50-80% discount on all of his best cards. Maybe we can look for a deal.

I was able to be competitive in 20 right near the end of the season. Spent a good penny doing so. Have won a handful of perfect championships since.

Changed the way I approached the '21 after I saw how cards were going to be released. Realized I did not have the pockets (or patience) to compete at the same level this year so I started having fun instead. Haven't spent a penny since early investments (months now I think) but have made PP hand over fist in speculation and hoarding cards instead of selling cards as soon as I open them as done in revisions past.

Only ripped packs this time around. My time in the AH has been almost exclusively as a seller this year. I have made a killing every 2 weeks quickselling LIVE cards that change levels.

I have managed to complete 16 of the FOTF missions and have sold off most of those cards for profit. I have a team that I could sell for well over 1,000,000 and they stink at the Diamond level.

Team Success seems to have become a much more exclusive club to join in this version of the game. But fun comes cheap. This game can make you smile if you approach it with the right attitude and expectations.

So I guess that was a long winded yes.

16 is impressive. I only completed 2 and bought a few others in the AH.

Do you have any FOTF divisions or leagues completed?

I'm already there. I quit in the middle of last week. Maybe I'll come back to it in the winter, but right now I'm going elsewhere for my entertainment. Got a backlog of games on Steam that I want to start catching up on. Still coming to the streams to stockpile packs just incase.

Not interested. Don't have the spare cash to throw around anyway to meet my ambitions, so not wasting my time.

I made a post here tonight:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=320737

Explains how I got the Walter Johnson. I am a few cards away from finishing up many of the rest. Not sure the reward is worth the sum parts for many of the remaining FOTF will be worth it however. The one I am closest to next is Hoffman. Hornsby next. I am not getting them to play them though. I still use '20 if I want to play actual manager of a baseball team.

More than anything else, this is creating the most frustration for me right now. I'm not someone who rips 900 packs a day, but I would say that between tournament wins (which have fallen off a bit), completing missions and Twitch drops, I'm certainly ripping over 100 packs a week and I haven't had a really great pull in months and have pulled only one historic perfect the entire season. One friend of mine, who rips probably around the same as me, pulled two historic perfects in consecutive packs a couple of weeks ago, while another friend consistently pulls high Diamond cards and even pulled a very good FOTF card earlier this week. It's far more normal for me to rip 25 packs and get a take of:

0 Diamond
1 Historic Gold (maybe, sometimes not even)
1 Live Gold
2 Historic Silver
4 Live Silver
Tons of Garbage

When you're not spending as much as the Whales, the best way to remain competitive is to AH what you pull -- but that's become futile for me at this point. I'm at the point where I have very few playable reserves. I've had to grind it out selling the golds and silvers that I've obtained along with that increasingly rare low Diamond in order to grab some of the FOTF cards.

Every two weeks I want to quit but I never do. The closest point was when SF FOTF was revealed and PEAK Mays that I bought for 500+K few weeks ago fell instantly to value of 150k (and basically to stay competitive I had to get that new FOTF and let the old one go). It felt horrible... I don't mind if value of players drop down in time but such crashes ain't no good. Nevertheless, I got my lesson. Never buy top priced cards.

Personally, the Face of Franchise cards have ruined the immersion of the game for our family.

We used to enjoy having a top team, some middle of the pack, and Diamond-only teams but with the gap (good vs top) getting larger, it just is not as much fun anymore.

A good diamond team was able to compete to some extend but now the Peak/FOF cards have taken over and they just don’t carry the same „this is how I remember ........player “.

In this regard, I am not sure I agree with the direction of the game and see us moving away from PT.

I would have preferred to see more cards that focus on certain years of players and skip the entire Peak/Face of Franchise cards.
Let a real historical season be the best card in the game for a player instead of what we have today.

My boys and I prefer when the gap between best cards and rest of the cards is not so big.

I'm kinda "limping along" at this point. I had 5 teams early on with different goals, but once the talent level got so high 4 of them were struggling between stone and Iron, so I reverted to simply popping packs as I earned PPs.

My "best" team (5 Perfects and the balance Diamonds) reached Gold once and is currently struggling in Bronze. I check in 2-3 times a week to check on them, but I'm pretty much back to playing other games and "Classic" OOTP.

I think next year I'll just carry one team so I have more time for other stuff.

My three teams regularly compete in the playoffs at Gold then get murdered at Diamond level. The cost of upgrading is prohibitive and I'm bored of grinding tournaments.
I love playing OOTP and will buy again next year but I'm done with Perfect Team.

I play with Joe and his family and like them I see all the new Perfect cards ruining the experience of too many people. Maybe the profit from the people that can afford to compete at the top outweighs the profit from the thousands of people that cannot spend that kind of money. It must because PT is rapidly becoming the playground of the rich and famous instead of a game for typical baseball lovers. How much people spend does not concern me and I am all for them spending all they can to support OOTP. My problem is that every couple of weeks the bar gets set higher, and higher, and higher...

I spend much less time on PT than in the past because it is a waste of my time to try to get better. Getting better is just not an option for my teams any more.
