Luckymann's Lessons in Uniformity

Thanks to the patient tutelage of the guy I view as the GOAT in this field - much appreciated Tx!! - and some deep diving into the wonders of the Adobe design suite, I have slowly been learning the art of OOTP graphics creation and have now reached a point where I'm comfortable enough to share some of my work.

These will almost entirely - at least to begin with - consist of historical and now defunct minor league teams. There will be a 300 px square logos for each, along with home and away unis and caps. The logo will need to be copied and reset to 150px for use as the smaller version, and I thought it best to leave this up to you to do because of the 5 file upload limit.

I'm not going to take requests just for now, but am happy for suggestions to be made for my consideration if you have any. I was thinking of working my way through various old minor leagues, but it's tough to follow any deliberate path given how much chopping and changing there has been over the years with these clubs and leagues. So I'm just going to start with some teams I am adding to one of my own saves and see where that takes me. I am a deliberate worker (thanks, OC tendencies!!) and still a bit of a noob, so these will be relatively slow in coming. Plus, I'll no doubt come back and revisit some of these as my skills (hopefully) improve along the way.

Anyway, nice to be giving back even in this little way after so many years of taking. Hope some of you find these to your liking and can use them in one or more of your OOTP worlds.

Thanks!

G

Cedartown (GA) Sea Cows Specs

OK, so first cab off the rank are the Sea Cows out of Cedartown GA, who played briefly in the Class D level Georgia-Alabama League from 1928 to 1930, winning one league pennant and one league championship.

Vernon (CA) Tigers Specs

Next up, the Tigers out of Vernon CA and, for those unfamiliar with either the place or the team, let me answer an unasked question with another question:

Why would a town whose population peaked at roughly 1000 back in the early part of last century be afforded a team in the mighty Pacific Coast League?

If you answered "they must have been drunk", you're not far off the mark. It was because Vernon was one of only two places in LA county at the time that weren't dry. In fact, Vernon laid claim to Doyle's bar, advertised as the "longest bar in the world", and its 37 bartenders.

Here's my take on their graphics.

Pine Bluff (AR) Judges Specs

All rise for the Judges out of Pine Bluff AR, who spent most of their later existence (earlier incarnations of the club go back as far as 1887) in the Cotton States League and as an affiliate of the St. Louis Browns. What a joyous role that must have been, although at least you'd be dealing with Bill Veeck, one of the game's true characters. The Judges had a fair few of their alumni end up in the bigs, with Lena Styles and Ryne Duren perhaps the most notable.

Santa Ana (CA) Walnut Growers Specs

While some references refer to the inaugural 1910 Santa Ana team as the "Yellow Sox", I will always gravitate towards nicknames that afford me a bit more creative licence, thus my choice here. That 1910 season was as one of the founding members of the ill-fated California Trolley League, which played only a game each Sunday and didn't last thru June. The Redondo Beach Wharf Rats, another club some may be familiar with, were another franchise featured. A later Santa Ana baseball venture suffered a similarly short existence.

Very nice. The walnut face and arms reminds me of the California Raisins.

If Tx hadn't already covered so much of it, I'd definitely start with the CA minor league teams once I've finished this batch that are for use in one of my saves. Still might, depending on what additional research unearths. The nicknames from that area are usually pretty cool. Raisin Eaters, Prune Pickers, Cherry Pickers. Plenty of fun to be had with that lot.

Sweetwater (TX) Swatters Specs

Not much to go by for the Swatters out of Sweetwater TX. After beginning life as the Gorman Buddies, they played briefly in the early 1920s West Texas League and popped up again in the post-WW2 Longhorn League before disappearing for good. Pop-Boy Smith is the only one among their MLB alumni that I've heard of.
