pitchers
trying to understand pitching ratings, i understand stamina but what is stuff and movement? i see pitchers in a 1-20 scale that have a stuff rating of 20 but their movement is 5, so are those going to be decent pitchers?

Movement affects home runs given up.
Stuff determines ability to get Ks. Control determines walks given up. Can't really answer if 5 will be a good pitcher. It isn't uncommon for high stuff guys to have lower movement. Strike out pitchers often give up more home runs. 5 isn't good but it is accurate? Also are you ok with a guy who will lead the league in strike outs but give up quite a few HRs. This is where looking at the stats comes in. If it is low movement and control unless they are doing well in the minors I would be weary of the pitcher. If movement is horrible but they have good stuff and control maybe? I would pay close attention to stats on this guy. Also consider your park. If it is deadball era this guy might be really good. If you play in a big park about half his starts won't be as bad for HRs. He will still give up a lot of HRs comparatively but if his WHIP is low you might get by with that. Also what is your offense like. Do you expect a lot of 1-0 or 2-1 wins or do expect to score 3 or 4 runs a game? All of that makes a difference. Same goes with groundball guys. How good is your D? A low stuff high movement and high control guy might not do well with a bad D since the ball is going to be in play a lot more. While a power high K guy with less control and movement might do just fine. |
