Service Time Question

Hoping I can get some clarification around service time for the off-season.

In our league we had a GM place a player on the secondary roster to protect him from the Rule V draft. His contract was not automatically changed from a MiLC to a MLC. And after 2 weeks of simming in game, he has not accumulated any service time on the Secondary Roster.

My two questions are:

1. Should a player who is transferred to the 40-man be automatically changed to a MLC, or does this change only happen as of a certain date (i.e. January 1);

2. When does Secondary Roster Time start accumulating? Is it the same as Major League Service Time, and only accumulates during the season?

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, only during the season does service time start counting. They'll be switched over to an MLB deal I think also only when the season starts.
