WAR Recalculating

I'm doing a big historical sim and I noticed that the WAR for some retired players is changing. Hornsby was the leader with 170.00 WAR when he retired, now 5 years later, his career WAR is 171.06. I know in real life some WARs change as the formula gets tweaked or new defensive statistics come out, but I don't think these changes would apply to OOTP. Has anyone else seen this or know why it happened?

I created the game in OOTP 21 after the last update, so no importing or updates happened.

After the next season, his career WAR is 169.45.

I don't spend any time looking at historical WAR's but this makes sense to me.
As new seasons are played and new players create/add new values - and a new standard WAR is added for each ensuing season - wouldn't historical values get tweaked, even if ever so slightly?
i.e. isn't it feasible that the actual 'historical' replacement level that WAR is based on gets adjusted ever so slightly, up or down, and therefore the WAR's of individual players as well.

No

Well. OOTP can do whatever they want

But, it's not generally done. What players do in the future shouldn't change how players were valued in the past.

WAR can change, when new information is added. But that comes from better information. Not because of how players perform 100 years later

Right. You are absolutely correct. Never thought it through enough. Apologies.

Offtopic but it continues to get more difficult every season to pull for the Mariners, eh? I miss Lou and those teams circa 1995-2001. Oh and do not get me started on the Giants especially after these last two games! At least three World Series in the past decade so there is that...

Giants are brutal right now, but it’s expected after the previous GM made bad contract extensions, current GM is crazy and Gabe Kapler at the moment is a horrible replacement after Bochys retirement. It’s gonna be a rough 2-4 years.
