Tim Locastro speed

Just checked a video about Locastro on youtube,about him being the fastest player in baseball.
Also he is clocked to be fastest in the league by statcast at 30.8 ft/s compared to 30.4 and 30.3 by turner and buxton.
In ootp however his speed rating is 148 in comparison to 192 and 194 by trae and byron.
Was this done out of balance reasons, or am i missing something?

You're, sort of, missing something

Speed works with Stealing and Baserunning to create the correct number of stolen bases, caught stealing, bases advanced and outs on the bases. It's not, really, a straight representation of speed.

I think

At minimum they have to reverse engineer speed by looking at player statistics not from direct measures. At least for the majority if players in history

I find fielding and running ratings to be a little off especially when playing historical

In my Footnote League, he is in the minors and his S/S/BR rating is only 87 / 101 / 105. It hasn't stopped him swiping 49 in 66 games, however.

He is caught a lot tho. and his main shtick is not getting caught!

Here is a similar discussion from last year's version, Matt comments on page 2 (post 24) about the difference of the ratings.

And for Locastro's rating, IIRC, they use ZIPS to determine ratings, these are not manually entered, but maybe it is something we could tweak, but in my most recent save, he usually swipes 60-80 bases and is caught somewhere in the teens.

Yeah it doesn't seem as if it was quite so high a priority back in the deadball era...
