Nicknames Messed up
Anyone know anyway to fix the nicknames when you import from lahman? I cant use Cato's Utility cause of the messed up names.

Its because the nicknames are too long

what I do with mine before putting it into the Cato util is run the Exporter util and then open the PLAYERS.CSV file and look through the nickname part to find the messed up players.
Then edit them in the game and copy the new files to the TEMP dir and run the Exporter again. Works like a charm |

What causes some of your errors in Cato's utility? I sometimes get errors in my Teams.csv file and cant find any wierd characters.

To fix the Cato bugs, open the questionable file in Wordpad and search for quotation marks that are doubled, or any non-ASCII characters. They'll look like squares. Delete the squares and make sure the quotes are in the proper pattern. Usually Cato's util will even tell you what line the issue is on.
I think if you have the Lahman DB there's no reason you couldn't open the CSV file in Excel and make it truncate all the nicknames to a certain length. The errors I've had have come 99% of the time when the nickname is over 12 characters. |
