Context:
The simulation will start on March 24, 2020. The NL West has probably the best team in baseball, the LA Dodgers. Competing for the division title will be very complicated and it will require more than 90 wins. The rest of the division improved in the offseason as the Padres acquired some experience that adds to a great roster. Bumgarner is the new addition of the DiamondBacks and they hay a roster good enough to fight for a wild card spot. My objective as the new GM for the 2020 season is to improve (severely) the record from 2019 and build a team good enough to fight for a WS ring in the 2022 season. Nevertheless, I think that the team has enough talent to have a good 2020 season and maybe fight for a wild card spot. Manager and Game Settings: I will be the General Manager and my first order of business was to fire Bud Black and hired John Farrell as Manager. The rest of the major league staff will keep their jobs. Farrell and the Minor league managers will handle the in-game strategy and I will handle the lineups, pitching staff and the depth charts (The minor league staff will handle this for the minor league teams) The injury level will be high to resemble modern-day baseball. Batting aging speed is set at: 0.90 Batting development speed is set at: 1.05 Pitching aging speed is set at: 0.85 Pitching development speed is set at: 1.10 The trading difficulty will be hard. Player evaluation settings are: 50/30/15/5 Big League Roster evaluation: *The active roster was automatically set when starting the game and the 40 man roster has currently 28 players. SP: The rotation is average. Our ace is Germán Marquéz who has a 65 overall rating and is only 25 years old. He had a mediocre 2019 season and hopefully, he can bounce back this year. The #2 starter is Jon Gray who had a good 2019 season and can still improve. The back end of the rotation features two youngsters; lefty Kyle Freeland and righty Antonio Senzatela. The last spot of the rotation will be for Jeff Hofman or Peter Lambert (he will be injured for the first month of the season). RP: The bullpen is one of the weak spots of the team. Diaz (the closer), Oberg, and Estevez are the big arms of the pen, the three of them are hard right-handed throwers. Almonte is young and hopefully, he can grow into an all-star reliever. The bullpen is lacking a good lefty that hopefully, we can acquire later. C: The Catcher position is another weak spot for us. Tony Wolters will be the starter, he has great defense and hopefully he can improve his offensive stats. Diaz, 29 years of age and with a couple of years experience in the majors will be the backup. IF: In my opinion if we can avoid injuries we have one of the best infields in the whole league. Murphy at first is a hitting machine and has a good defense. The two-second basemen, Hampson and McMahon, are young and will probably platoon for the rest of the year. Nolan Arenado is one of the best 3B in baseball as Trevor Story in the shortstop position. Brendan Rogers, is a young star that will play in various position. OF: Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl are two big bats in the outfield that will be in the core of the lineup. They do not have a great defense but will be the starters in right field and center field. The question about who will start in left field is a little bit trickier as Ian Desmond, Sam Hillard and Raimel Tapia all have their pros and cons. Farm System: There is very little to say about the farm system. We are ranked as the worst in all the league. Owner goals: 2020. Play close to .500 ball 2022. Sign Trevor Story to an extension 2024. Build up the team to reach the playoffs. Front Office status We have no money for FA and just 7.2M for extensions. I will take advantage of the fan loyalty (Extreme) and the fan interest (83) to raise the ticket prices to $39,75. (They were at $34.75) I´ve increased the development budget from 10.2M in 2019 to 11.190 M in 2020 I´ve decreased the scouting budget from 11.4M in 2019 to 8.470 M in 2020 The current budget is the 13th biggest in the league and the current payroll is the 11th. *played in OOTP21 |
