Deciding what to do with my windfall

So woke up to the Andris Chapman I had for sale finally going through (thank you person that bought it for the buy now price), and with 15k of PP, debating if I want to go crazy with 15 packs, or 5 Golds. The latter has a guaranteed gold, but the former has more chances for diamonds and perfect (and would help my collections moe, because that's what I'm really playing this for)

Thoughts?

Going gold is probably better the more you buy so getting only five isn't probably the best idea I would go regular packs.

dont use it for packs.

Build a good iron team for tournaments (where you could easily get 15 packs every few days), and use the rest to hammer on some Live Missions.

PP in hand is way more valuable than the cost of packs.

If 15K is a "windfall" then you can't afford to blow it on packs.

Buy players.

This!
For less than 2K you can build an iron team that wins 50 packs every week.
(Hint: the most expensive player is Don Newcomb)

On second thought, BUY 15 PACKS. Can't have everyone winning 50 packs a week.

As a player for whom 15K PP is also a "windfall," I echo the previous posters. DO NOT spend this on packs!!!!!

I'd go the tourney roster route as well. You can surpass 15 packs from a solid Iron or Bronze tourney team in no time. Spend 2K on that, and get one good upgrade with the remaining 13K.

Hi guys, super helpful info here. I just found OOTP last weekend and am having a blast with Perfect Team. Any other tips or budget player recommendations you can offer a noob? Thx!

Enjoy it.
In the early levels, you can gradually upgrade your team. Look at positional needs. Pay attention to the ratings, not necessarily the Overall card rating.

Maximize your time in the entry pool. Make your ballpark effects as hitter friendly as possible (and probably keep it that way through Rookie at least) so you can get more PP for big hitting. Maybe invest some PP in a slugger (you can always sell the player any-time so thing of it as a 'lease'.... but remember there is a 10% Tax when you sell a player).

Spam tournaments. Early-on, there is a low barrier of entry into Iron and low cap tournaments. You can build a quality iron team for not much PP. Even if you just randomly have the CPU set your team and lineup you will still get lucky once in awhile. The most well-known Iron tourney staples are probably Don Newcombe and Vic Power. Go into the tournaments after they conclude (you have 24 hours) and look at what cards the finalists are playing as well as how their rotation is, bullpen, any Platoons, etc. Think of it as scouting.

Do the live collection missions with your PP. Try not to lock the best cards. For instance, you need 26 players on the Brewers. You have 26, and 2 of them are Diamonds, and 2 players you dont have are Silvers. As enticing as it is to pull the trigger and get the reward, you want to dump those Diamonds and lock the Silvers instead (you can never sell players locked in to complete missions). Live Golds and Diamonds do have use in Live tournaments, but as you move up the Promotion ladder (and complete live missions), the Live Cards become more and more worthless.

Go on the twitch streams. Kris runs a fun tournament every Monday, and Thursday releases news, cards, missions, etc. There are also PP giveaways (soon they might roll out drops of pp, cards, packs, etc). There are also some great 'solitaire' streams. Tonight there is a double-header of a White Sox one followed by a Reds dynasty. You will pick up a ton.

You can also run a historical 'replay' every 72 hours to get a pack. Many people run the 27 Yankees and get a pack that way.

My recommendation would be to enter a few tourneys, download the final results and see which players/teams are most successful.

I've only been playing PT for roughly 2 weeks. Have won 15 or so tourneys in the Iron and Bronze levels with a modest investment after selling a few cards (I'm a free to play type).

Don't expect to win every day. Tournaments are a crapshoot. Most everyone has the same players. The key is finding a strategy that performs well.

I am in the same situation in 20. My league last season paused for 3 days and finally came back live on Friday. I have 40K. I won 90 games last season but missed out on the playoffs. Tough league. My team is #1 in offense (as always), but only 8th in pitching. They are in 1st place by 5 games already. So I would not spend the money on hitting, and when I look at the list of pitchers that I can get with my money, it is the same old same old... deGrom, Verlander.... etc.. Even when I search for 80K nothing really changes...

So I think I will wait until the middle of the week and get rid of the worst starter and get a new one. It makes it tough when your 97 rated player is struggling.

Relative newbie, can you go into further detail on this. It's within the PT system?

From another thread:

From here the best team to use for this is the 1927 New York Yankees since they are probably the best team ever so select the season of "baseball's Rebirth 1921-1945) then select the year 1927 and go next step. Then I just leave the next screen with transactions blank and just hit Next step, then the next screen just hit next step again until you get to the screen where you pick your team. Pick the Yankees and then start the game. To make the sim faster go to your manager name at the top of the screen and click on it and go to "manager Options". At the bottom of the screen should be a part that says EXIT AUTO PLAY and then it has 5 check marks under it. Uncheck all of those. Those just stop the simulation you are doing for things such as personal messages, injuries, etc. You don't have to uncheck these but that is the fastest way to sim if you can just get rid of all of those. Then you just sim week by week and wait until you get a pack reward pop up. We never know beforehand what will cause the pack to be rewarded but it's usually some type of accomplishment. I get many of mine after the first season is over. Sometimes it comes halfway through the first seasons. The odd time I have to wait till the second season.

Keep note of what time you earn this pack. You will get to earn another pack every 72 hours.

Hope this helps
