Promoted Prospect too Early?

Hey, what's up! In my first online league and we're about 4-5 years in.

I have gone through plenty of searches about prospects being brought up too fast and whatnot. However, I traded for a prospect in my league that was on the team's international complex roster. I had no idea(or maybe i didn't remember) that once you trade for the player in the complex he's automatically promoted to your lowest level. In this case its A-. So i have this 16 year old prospect with plenty of potential just kind of sitting in my lowest level.

The question is, what do i do with him? Should i start him every day? Should i have him not play at all? Ride the pine? FIRE HIM!? lol Obviously there's no one answer i'm sure but I'd love to hear some recommendations. Thanks in advance.

If he doesn't play, he'll certainly decline. If he does play, he may be overwhelmed and give up, but he also has a chance to blossom. I would try starting him every third day or so, moving him among the positions that he has the potential to play capably.

Short-season A is an unusually high lowest level. Lots of players just signed out of high school will struggle there.

Alright, super kool. Ill definitely have to try that.

Makes plenty of sense but wouldn't just cancel it out if that's the lowest level for everyone? Guys coming out of high school would be playing there regardless. Just a thought. We're all new to the online scene but we're a small community of close people.

I promote my 16 year studs to DSL a lot right away. They don't really develop fast in the international complex. You drop them into DSL and if they are in fact the "super star" stud they can make the MLB by 19.

If they stay in the int complex till 18-20 it takes them a lot longer to develop. But usually they develop into at least some kind of mlb talent. So its safer. Dropping them into the DSl at 15/16 its risk/reward. Most likely looking at star or busts and no in between levels.

Understood. However, in this league we don't have DSI. The lowest league after the complex is A-. Would your suggestion still stand?

Oh apologies I missed that part. Not sure never played without any rookie league. If draftees can survives A- I don't see why int complex kids couldn't only a couple years youngers.

The problem for the HS draftees is that in A- they play against players drafted from college and thus risk being discouraged by too-stiff competition.

One possible palliative for the International Complex guys is to set up a Winter League (which doesn't have to be limited to any particular season) in which they can play. This is a somewhat obscure option, and the process isn't completely intuitive, but I was able to figure it out, so your league's commissioner should be able to.
