What do you use?

So my laptop has seemingly reached the end of line. It's an Aspire E-15 with a 2.7 GHz i7 processor. However, the battery is my main concern and is on a lifeline at the moment. I'm hoping for something less transportable, yet with more (not unlimited) power.

My desired world size is simply too large to accommodate steady play beyond a three- or four-year sims. Think all available leagues, tweaked, some with small feeder leagues. And I haven't even gotten around to introducing an abbreviated NCAA-style feeder for the Majors.

As such, the above image - fingers crossed it shows, as I've never tried to embed an image in a thread before - is a representation of what I'm thinking about having built, though would happily find a rough equivalent for cheaper.

Any recommendations from UK users or the general usership with large OOTP worlds as to recommended specs and/or whether or not I'm going overboard?

Am I being daft or how is the image not popping up in the original post?

Bingo. Got it.

I can't comment on anything over in the UK. But it's a fine desktop. Completely overkill for ootp but a perfect mid tier gaming rig. The GPU is on the low end if you plan on playing any AAA games with intense graphics.

So all depends what you are using it for.

For context, I dabble in AoE, a bit of Civ and have more recently expanded to open-world gaming, but keep the graphics low. I'm not a believer in graphics being the be-all and end-all of a game and therefore usually tone them down when playing any AAA on my current laptop. That said, my current graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX, so definitely on the outdated side of things.

All I'll looking for is decent performance for a halfway reasonable price.

Your good to go then. Me I would go 32gb ram and a 1tb SSD drop the mechanical.

Speaking of the SSD the x570 motherboard you actually want a nvme 4.0 or 3.0 SSD. Not a sata3 SSD. Since you are paying extra for the x570 motherboard you might as well use it features.

Nvne 4.0 is like 10x faster then sata3 SSD.

RAM and nvme 4.0 SSDs are definitely more in the direction of increased firepower for increased price. Might I be able to compromise by selecting a lesser motherboard, say the ASUS Rog Strix B450-F, that could then still make the most of a nvme SSD?

You could. X570 is top of the line amd motherboard series. So you can go lesser mobo. The b450 will be nvme 3/0 which is still like 3-5x time faster then normal ssd. A normal 2.5 sata3 ssd is still fine as well. Some people like to drop the latest tech in their rigs or if you are doing a lot of data transfer then the nvme really shines. You won't really notice a difference in gaming or normal desktop work. Now if you were editing video yes nvme 4.0 all the way.

X570 is really for overclocking and so is the nocuta cooler you selected. as well as the 750w psu you will never use. You will be lucky to hit 450 watts. So you could get like a silver/gold 450-550 watt psu whichever has the best price point over the pond. If you arent overclocking the default amd cooler is fine.

So if you are looking to save money those are the areas you can tone down. Also optical drives and mechanical drives aren't popular so you can skip them unless you have some need.

Appreciate the insight. As you probably gathered, this is my first rodeo with PCs that aren't laptops. Figured I might as well make the switch sooner rather than later.

As you seem to be the knowledgeable type with regards to specs, how easy is it upgrade your PC post-purchase? Say, buy the additional SSD or RAM on Amazon and then install it?

Ram is the easiest thing to install in the world.
Ssds are pretty easy however if you replace your primary drive then you either have to clone to the new drive or do a fresh install and data migration. So that part kinda stinks.

Some people feel when they get a new desktop that might as well spring for bells n whistles because they k kw they don't update. Other just want the basics. And others want everything color coordinated lol lots of different gaming desktop build people types.

But yeah I've previously built custom gaming computers professionally for a decade. Even custom paint jobs and art work for customers.
