A Guide for NMS teams to Compete with the Mega-Whales in OOTP

At the present time there is a standoff between the MLB owners and the players union. The owners want the players to take a significant pay cut for playing a reduced summer/fall schedule. Understandably, no one wants a pay cut and the players feel the same.

The key element to this is the renewal of the CBA between the owners and players union in 2021. Many (probably the majority) of owners would like to see a revenue sharing system with a salary cap that promotes greater parity between teams like we see in the NFL and NBA.

If the stalemate between owners and the player's union continues the best strategy for the owners may be to restart the league this summer using minor league and college ballplayers (assuming they can find a legal way to do so). This is essentially how the American League started in the early 1900s. The quality of play on the field will not be critically important if fans are not allowed to attend games and the teams can receive broadcasting revenues. If successful, this will give the owners tremendous leverage when negotiating the 2021 CBA.

Here is the critical point for F2P OOTP players... Tim Tebow will be in the majors and quickly become a star. Wise NMS players will have purchased multiple Tebow's when he is introduced as a cheap common card for a few PP each. By late summer Tebow's card will have risen to a Perfect 100.

Since Tebow will have become the most beloved player in the history of baseball, the whales will spend an unlimited amount of PP to buy his card. F2P owners will reap millions (perhaps billions) of PP liquidating their Tebow inventory to put together an ultimate team. Markus, Kris and the rest of the gang will become richer than Mike Trout from PP sales to the whales.

NMS = no money spent on team improvements. Just use accumulating PP rather than $$ to buy more.
