Question on contracts
Simply put, once the season is over, but before free agency, if I trade for a player with a large contact, am I paying anything for the current year salary, or just the years in the future. I’ll give a specific example.
It’s November 1 2023 and Patrick Corbin was making 27 million in 2023 and makes 35 million in 2024. I have room to acquire him and the Nats want him off the books, so I can get some Value back in prospects if I take on the deal. The question is if I acquire him after the 2023 season but before FA starts, it says I’m taking on his 2023 contact and 2024. I know I’m not, but am I paying any money to him for that 2023 year, or just 2024? |

Just 24 as all the 23 salary is already paid out.
