The International Baseball League

One more shot at this thing
I am going to start a new league, 24 teams, 2000 stats/financials which will not change year to year.
I am going to sim out 20 seasons before I take a job.
I will take over the club that has the 1st overall pick in the 21st season.
However, I am going to update the league after each season so teams and stars and legends are known when I pick it up.

The 30 year old already has 114 saves in the leagues first three seasons. He is the only reliever in the game that has gotten two pitches graded at 100 by the OSA. In 3 years he is 13-11 114 Saves 1.04 ERA. Over 215.2 innings he has yielded just 94 hits and 92 BB to 411 K's. That is a 0.86 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 17.2 K/9 and he has accumulated 15.2 WAR. He's allowing 3.9 H/9 and is sporting a 6.6 K/BB ration. His FIP? Check this out: 0.94 in 2000, 0.89 in 2001 and a miniscule 0.35 in 2002. 3 year FIP = 0.70.
  • Those 114 saves have come in 119 opportunities for a .958 SV%. He's allowed just 5 of 29 IR to score for an IRS% of 17.2%.

  • Los Angeles Seraph Tom “Baby Bull” Bullen became the first pitcher in the IBL to toss 2 no-hitters as he no-hit Austin for a second time after no-hitting them in 2001.

Side note

One thing I have noticed. It seems the larger range or numbers you let players be assigned for talent, the more dramatic the game swings Offense or Defense.
This is the 1st year I have ever used a 1-100 system.
I did it again in the upcoming year but I am going to change it for 2005 and see what happens.

  • The Charlotte Cyclones beat the Pittsburgh Bulldogs 4-0 in the Wild Card round, Sacramento 4-2 in the Division Series, and swept the Los Angeles Seraphs 4-0 to win the IBL World series. Game 4 was over when Charlotte 2B Dan Rome lined a 1 out world series-winning homer to LF. Catcher Eric Lebron taking home WS MVP honors (.333/.385/.917 2 HR)
  • The top 2 seeds, Pittsburgh (105-57) and Houston (107-55) didn't make it past their 1st round WC opponents.
  • I should add that the playoff structure is best of 7, 7, 7 and only 4 teams make the playoffs in each league with the WC winner facing the 1 seed.
  • Right fielders Sam Harris (DEN) and Jason Bloyer became the 1st players to ever have 6 hits in an IBL game. Both games were extra-inning affairs.
  • Brian Cook (CHA) and San Diego Panther hurler Humberto Ybarra became just the 2nd and 3rd pitchers to record multiple no-hitters as Cook no-hit Toldeo on August 24th and Ybarra no-hit Austin on the 6th of September.
  • Austin has been no-hit 4 times, more than any club in the IBL.
  • The batting champions hit .313 (Jaime Greif (PIT)) and .317 (David Gomez (LA)) respectively.
  • Rattler 1B Teune Van Dijk (Tune-van-Deek) hit 51 homers making it his 4th season of 50+ HR's.
  • 5 hurlers surpassed the 300K mark. Wibren Meurs led them all at 340, Shane Wright (MEM) 322, John Collins (DAL) 314, Oscar Reyes (CHI) 311 and his rotation mate Jean-Michel Deusdar with 302.
  • Lancaster SS Danny Gonzalez took home a 5th straight Silver Slugger in the Continental.
  • Tyler Romano (SAC) took home the FL MVP hitting .259/.350/.597 with 59 HR's and 8.3 WAR
  • Wibren Meurs stepped to the podium for the 4th time in 5 years going 18-10 1.75. In the leagues 5 years, he and Oscar Reyes have finished 1-2 every season in the Frontier League.
  • Sacramento had its second straight rookie of the year as CF George Waller took home this year's honor.
  • Bulldog Eddie Sadewasser had a 'down' year seeing his ERA rocket from 0.23 to 1.13! That didn't stop him from taking home his second consecutive Mariano Rivera award. He was 5-2 with 44 Saves.
  • LA slugger Mike Laudenslager won the Continental MVP hitting .266/.360/.597 with 56 HR's.
  • 23-year-old Houston Apollo pitcher Oscar Aburto won his 1st Koufax with a 20-10 2.52 season.
  • Arizona saw it's third Jackie Robinson winner in 5 years as SS Aaron Gravdahl hit 34 HR's to take it.
  • Arizona got more hardware when Reliever Aurelien Vautier took home his 2nd Mariano Rivera award going 7-5 36 SV 1.41 ERA

  • Ratings change from 1-100 to 20-80
  • The league made a decision to lower the height of the mound in order to hopefully provide more offense.
  • The Pittsburgh Bulldogs took 6 games to overcome the Arizona Rattlers and become the 1st IBL team to win more than one world series.
  • Rattler star Teune van Dijk, despite being on the losing end, became the 1st World Series MVP to come from the losing club hitting 4 HR in the 6 game series.
  • Indianapolis Racer right fielder Elvis Enriquez set a new IBL single-season HR record hitting 69.
  • Arizona's James McDermott hit 62 to finish 2nd in the Continental.
  • Sam Kas (PIT) and John Collins of Dallas were the only two pitchers to surpass 300K's.
  • Portland's Johnathan Goss (.316) and Houston's Nate Harden (.322) were the batting champions.
  • Denver Grizzly pitcher Jesus Tobias became the 1st pitcher in IBL history to record 20 strikeouts in a single 9 inning game. In a May 15th 7-2 win he punched out 20 Washington Eagles.
  • On July 7th Indianapolis Racer Robbie Peterson faced just 27 batters in tossing the IBL's 1st perfect game and accumulating the 1st 100+ game score for an IBL pitcher (102). He punched out 15 and needed just 111 pitches.
  • Pittsburgh Bulldog Ricky Garcia became the 1st IBL hitter to have a hitting streak of 30+ games as he hit in 35 straight from June 13th to July 29th. He was 58-160 (.362) 14 2B 2 3B 4 HR 22 RBI's 8 BB 11 K during the streak.
  • 21-year-old Oscar Reyes saw his string of 300 strikeout seasons end as he was off and on the DL for 7-8 total starts. He went 9-4 2.17 with 299 K's in just 174 IP. The 2nd season in a row he failed to hit 200 innings. He still led the league in WHIP for a 4th straight year (0.80) and in those 28 starts had the 2nd highest WAR among IBL pitchers with enough innings to qualify at 9.3. Many scouts have been talking about health concerns for “No Trump” Reyes (that's his nickname.)

  • Jonathan Gross of Portland (.316) and Nate Harden of Houston (.322) were the batting title winners.
  • The Bulldogs were not hurting for hardware either.
  • They boasted the MVP in 27-year-old LF Jason Fisher (.285/.399/.616 w/ 49 HR) and the Koufax winner in 33-year-old Sam Kas who went 21-6 with a 2.30 ERA.
  • Long Beach got its first Rookie of the Year as 1B Nate Miller slammed 35 home runs to win the Jackie Robinson.
  • Denver managed to sign 2 time Continental league Rivera winner Jeremy Summerlin and he rewarded them with their 1st and his 3rd Mariano Rivera Award going 6-5 with 39 Saves and a 1.14 ERA as well as becoming the 1st FL reliever to accumulate a WAR of 6
  • Over in the Continental the 69 HR season of rookie Elvis Enriquez made him the Jackie Robinson winner (.259/.343/.634) but in the closest MVP vote ever Arizona slugger Branden Simmons took home his second Ruth award going .317/.378/.699 with 54 HR's
  • Houston's Gerardo Garcia took home the CL's Koufax going 14-7 2.18
  • Memphis closer Miguel Ortiz won his 1st Rivera going 3-5 with 43 Saves and a 1.71 ERA which he then parlayed into a 3 year deal with LA that winter.

  • Ratings changed from 1-20 to 1-10
  • The Sacramento River Cats shocked the IBL in sweeping the 2 time defending Champion Bulldogs out of the playoffs 1st round. They rolled over Chicago 4-1 in the 2nd round and entered the World Series vs Houston where they promptly won the 1st two games in Sacramento. It would be the last time they won a game as the Houston Apollos would be the first IBL team down 2-0 in a post-season series to win 4 straight and take home the 2007 title.
  • Apollo CF Dennis Apolito took home the WS MVP.
  • Denver Grizzlie Mike Arnold started the year in the bullpen. He got his 1st start on May 11th and went 7.1 IP striking out 10 in a 7-0 win in Portland. In his first 8 starts he would strike out 12, 13, 13, 12, 16, 13, 10, and 10, His next 6 starts he would fan 7, 14, 10, 15, 5, 8. All that to lead up to his final 14 starts which would yield these totals 14, 11, 13, 17,15, 15, 22, 11, 12, 11, 16, 12, 14, 16.
  • On September 7th he fanned 22 Dallas Texans over 9 innings of a 7-3 win.
  • Those final 13 starts would yield this stat line.
  • 13 starts 11-1 2.04 ERA 10 CG 127.2 IP 66 hits 37 BB 189 K's and a PBL record 11 straight 10K+ games. The final two starts were made in the playoffs including his last start which was a 1-hit complete game loss at Chicago 1-0 in which he walked 2 and fanned 14. He was the only IBL pitcher to record 300 K's on the year, finishing with an FL best 351.
  • For the series he was 0-1 14 IP 6 H 2 BB 25 K's with a 1.93 ERA. His only hiccup? During that same run he yielded 18 home runs.
  • Jaime Greif (PIT) at .336 and Brock Vasher (LAN) at .306 were the batting champions.
  • Gary Buteaux (CHI) and Jason Fisher (PIT) tied for the Frontier league HR title at 49 while superstar Branden Simmons (AZ) ran away from the CL with 65.

  • Settings from 1-8 to 1-5
  • Yes, the Pittsburgh Bulldogs made the world series again!
  • They swept Denver in the 1st round, beat the Coyotes 4-2 in the 2nd round but were stunned in the world series by an upstart Ft Worth Cowboys club who would go on to win their 1st WS title 4 games to 1.
  • Cowboys SP Ryan Brooks took home series MVP honors going 2-0 0.69.
  • Ft Worth represented the CL in the inaugural 2000 season, losing to Dallas 4 games to 3.
  • Sacramento and Albuquerque played an 18 inning game in round 1 that ended 1-0. There was a total, a grand total of 13 hits, and not one extra-base hit amongst them.
  • Antelope slugger Brock Vasher won the CL HR title hitting 61 to Branden Simmons (AZ) 60.
  • Jerry Cox (BOS) and Jon Jones (SAC) tied for the Frontier title at 57 apiece.
  • Speaking of Cox he would end the season with exactly 499 career home runs and win his 7th Silver Slugger at 1B.
  • I believe this is also the 1st season no pitcher struck out 300 batters.
  • Vasher also became the 1st hitter in IBL history to drive in 150 runs in season.
  • June 9th Ft Worth slugger Winston Martinez became the first player ever to get 6 hits in a 9 inning game. He went 6-6 with 2 HR and 4 RBI
  • Ft Worth's Ryan Brooks became just the 3rd pitcher in history to strike out 20 batters in a game as he fanned 20 State Island Yankees on September 4th.
  • Brooks would also combine with teammate Tony Sanders as the only two pitchers to toss no-hitters in 2009 with Sanders doing it on May 30th vs San Antonio and Brooks doing it to the Racers in Indianapolis on August 13th.
  • Players reaching career milestones:
  • Alfredo Valdes (4/27) Branden Simmons (5/17) Teune van Dijk (8/18) and Adrian Hine (9/26) all hit their 400th career home runs
  • Eddie Sadewasser saved #400 on 5/5
  • Wibren Meurs struck out his 3000th career hitter on 8/14
  • 2 familiar faces on the Awards list of the Frontier League
  • Wibren Meurs took home Koufax #5 with a 18-12 2.09 season while Eddie Sadewasser won his 4th Rivera in a row and 6th overall.
  • Sacramento's Jon Jones won the Babe Ruth award hitting .302/.385/.659 with 57 HR's and a record 11.2 WAR
  • Portland's Jon Gonzalez hit .282/.348/.525 with 34 HR's to win the Jackie Robinson Award

  • Like the Frontier League the Continental League saw many familiar faces as well.
  • Arizona's Branden Simmons won an unprecedented 5th league MVP hitting .341 with 60 home runs
  • Teammate Sam Kas (who signed in 2007 as a free agent) won his 2nd Koufax and became the 1st pitcher to win the award in both leagues as he went 15-7 2.69
  • Aurelian Vautier made it 3 majors for the Rattlers as he took home his 4th Rivera Award
  • Racer rookie Alvin Rivera hit 38 homers en route to the Jackie Robinson Award

This might sound corny

But I appreciate the "thanks" as I am honestly never sure who or how many folks follow this.
I don't want to do this just to do it, I would prefer to do it for folks who are like me and like the detail in folks Dynasties.
If I'm not hitting that mark feel free to speak up.
I DO like writing but only if folks are getting rewarded for their time here.

  • Both of the wild card winners upset the #1 seeds in round 1 and both would get to the World Series for the 1st time in league history.
  • The Long Beach Titans would take home their 1st title and halt the Cowboys bid to become just the 2nd back to back champions in IBL history.
  • The Frontier League now leads the Continental 6-5 in World Series wins.
  • Brendon Pugh (WAS) .326 and Matt Hintz (MEM) .310 took home the batting titles.
  • The Portland Pioneers lost 114 games, which I believe is a new record.
  • Raynaud Gusti (BOS) and Miguel Ramirez (ALB) tied for the FL HR crown at 52 while Chris Theurer (MEM) led the IBL with 53.
  • Mike Goode of Long Beach was the only hurler to record a 300K season (305). Mike Arnold ended with 298.
  • Just one no-hitter this year. Memphis' Mike Edens struck out 6 at Oklahoma City on May 29th.

  • 2010 Milestones:
  • Jerry Cox and Tony Lopez recorded their 500th career HR's. Cox did it on opening day.
  • Nate Harden (HOU) Danny Gonzalez (LAN) Carlos Hernandez (OKC) Gary Buteaux (CHI) Tyler Romano (SAC) Danny Sarmiento (CHA) Santos Madrigal (DEN) all recorded their 400th career home runs.
  • Chris Wright (LA) joined the 400 save club.

  • Sacramento's Jon Jones became the 1st Frontier League player to win 2 Babe Ruth awards as he won his 2nd in 2 years hitting .279/.383/.626 with 50 HR
  • Wibren Meurs extended his record with his 6th Koufax (and 2nd in a row) going 14-11 2.60 for the Titans.
  • Sacramento's Nick Daley took home Rookie of the year honors becoming the 3rd Rail Cat rookie to win the award.
  • In the Rivera, the Bulldogs, who had won 6 times with closer and future Hall of Famer Eddie Sadewasser won it yet again. This time, with Sadewasser in Sacramento, Ernie Gilmour went 3-4 45 Saves 1.43 ERA to win it for the 7th time in 11 years for Pittsburgh.
  • Glen Tylor (DEN) took home his 6th silver slugger as a catcher, 4th in a row while Jerry Cox won his 8th for the Bombers.
  • In the Continental Lancaster's Brock Vasher hit .287/.397/.618 with 52 homers to capture his first MVP
  • Teammate Adam Sutton won his 1st Koufax going 16-7 2.04
  • Houston Apollo rookie Antonio Salazar hit .290 with 24 HR to take win the Jackie Robinson Award, given each year to the game's best rookies.
  • And in the Rivera a familiar name with a new team. San Diego Panther closer Eddie Sadewasser became the 1st Panther to win the award and took it home for his 7th win as well. He has won 7 of the 11 trophies while taking it home for the 3rd straight year for a 3rd different team.

Sometimes I stray to my MLB league, but dynasties like these always get me excited about playing my fictional league.

  • What constitutes a dynasty? How long or what attributes?
  • I feel comfortable saying 5 straight World Series appearances is a decent start.
  • The Long Beach Titans defeated the Memphis Kings 4 games to 1 to win their 4th world series title and third straight. Both of those are league records.
  • Titan CF Alex Mercado went 8-18 2 HR 7 RBI to take home series MVP honors.
  • 24-year-old Stars 2B Mauricio Castillo set a new record by hitting .394 to win the Continental league batting title (and the MVP) and the Chicago Skyhawks saw Osjami Hernandez win the FL title at .363, followed by teammate Alex Vigil's .355. Hernandez also won the RBI title with 129.
  • Ft Worth's Dan Srp took home the second ever Pitching Triple Crown going 20-10 2.79 with 259 K's.
  • Seattle went 67-95 in their inaugural season and Las Vegas was 56-106.
  • Oklahoma City and San Antonio had to play a 163rd game after ending the season tied and the Bison beat the Stars forcing them to meet up with the #1 seeded Seraphs.
  • On July 13th the Bisons and Panthers met in San Diego and would play the longest game in IBL history.
  • The Panthers would walk it off in the bottom of the 21st to win the game 2-1 when left fielder Justin Coleman singled into the hole. The single was also his 7th hit of the game as he went 7-8 with 1 RBI and the first player ever to get 7 hits in a game of any length. His 7 hits featured 2 2B's a 3B and 4 singles. He also walked once and struck out once.
  • (First time in OOTP I've ever had a player get 7 hits)
  • Stars 25-year-old CF Bob Winer became just the 2nd IBL player to drive in 150+ runs in a season breaking Brock Vasher's record of 150. The Rookie of the Year hit .331/.399/.623 with 40 HR's and 152 RBI's.
  • 2014 Milestones:
  • Vasher and Staten Islands Gary Butreaux hit their 500th HR's
  • Branden Simmons hit his 600th for Arizona
  • Seraphs closer Chris Wright saved his 500th.
