Question Newbie w/questions

Hi All,

I am new to the whole OOTP thing...never had any of the previous ones (mainly because I never heard of them) but I bought 5 as soon as I learned about it. You see, I am a stat geek to a certain point myself....I remember playing SSI Baseball in my youth and I would print out the stats in store them in a CreativeCACL spreadsheet and play an entire season...but I digress, sorry. Anyway, I have some questions (some that have already been asked but I still haven't been able to decipher the answer) and will most likely, due to the fact that I am as about as bright as drift wood, have many more as I go on. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance:

1) What is totalminors? It is some sort of stat database, correct? Does it have minor league players?

2) I have seen Lahman, ASKITS (is that right?) and something by someone named geforce22 (is that right?) as far as databases go...which is the best to use? I am a BIG yankee fan (and after reading the forums all day today I know quite a few of you aren't going to take to kindly to that fact...sorry though...I was born a Yankee fan) and I want to take over the Yankees (historically) right now (with their minor league system if possible) and play them going forward against accurate other teams in MLB. Which database would be best used for that?

3) Any general tips you can give me would be helpful and well appreciated.

Something that I have learned while reading the forums today is that the people in the OOTP community are probably the nicest people I have ever seen in a gaming forum...and extremely helpful too...kudos to you all.

Thanks in advance for your help, sorry for the long post, and please don't get pissed if I post another 50 questions in the coming days once I try and get immersed in the game (around my sick professional schedule...ugh!) Thanks again all!!

1) TotalMinors is a roster set with all the real players name, and it has about the right ratings. That was made my GForce.

If you want to play the Yankees right now, download and use TotalMinors, and it has all the players, and about 60 (I think) player sin the farm system.

Heh, Ankits i believe.

The Lahman's and Ankit's DB are made for using past seasons. They stop at the 2002 season i think so you would not be able to use them for a current season.

Also, with the DB's there are no minor leaguers there because it only imports players that played in the majors.

As was said by Twins15, if you want to use a current roster pack, definately use TOTALMINORS.

Hope this helped

Sorry... no tips. I've been playing OOTP since day one of v3, and I honestly have become very good at it. If you play it enough, you will learn and devolop your own strategies, tips, hints, whatever. I guess you can try searching for 'OOTP5 strategies,' 'OOTP5 tips,' 'OOTP5 hints,' or whatever, if you're absolutely desperate. But my only suggestion as far as this goes, is play the game. Learn the features, and once you become addicted, and begin playing it enough, you will devolop your own "style" of playing OOTP.

We won't. That's what we and the message forum are here for. To help those who need it (among other things - but that is first and foremost)

Twins15 and tcblcommish covered the above two items, so I won't go into further detail there. If you need any help, or advice to help you get started, please ask. We will help you.

Dbacks, commis, and twins:

Thank you all for your input!! It is very much appreciated!! I downloaded both the lahman and the totalminors v1.1....just to say I have them both

I will try using the totalminors one though....and here is where I ask for more help...the lahman one, with it's csv (or is it cvs) file seems easy to import....but me, being about as bright as a sack o' hammers, can't figure out how to import the totalminors one...is there a thread with the instructions? The readme text included with it...I am embarrassed to say...didn't give me enough info to do it...or at least info that I personally understood. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Bravo 1/5 USHA

PS - Hey dbacks...I totally agree...I would rather create my own "style" as well....what I meant by tips really was more in the line of technical ones...things that u experts have seen come up as issues that maybe you could enlighten me on so as to avoid the technical snafus...of course...maybe there aren't any, but thanks again for the help and the patience!!

You don't have to import Totalminors. Just make it a directory in your OOTP folder with a .lg ending and you will be able to open and use it.

No one is born a Yankees fan. At least, I don't think there's a gene for it. You've got choice, dude, the power to choose.

Choose wisely.

And good luck with the game, unless you mess around with those Yankees.

Well geez...that seems easy enough...ugh. Thanks for your help ctorg (and thanks for making me feel even stupider )

Anywhere in the ootp folder? It doesn't have to be in a certain folder? And the folder can be any name as long as the FOLDER ITSELF has an .lg extension? Do I have to import it then or will it automatically use those rosters when I select historical league creation? Thanks in advance!

Create a folder in your OOTP5 directory, call it something like "TOTAL.LG".

Unzip the files into it.

Load up the game.

Click on Continue League.

Go to the League menu, and hit "Open League".

You should be able to choose an option called "Total"

Keep letting us know if you have problems!

The Totalminors roster pack is not a database-- it's just a league file that has been edited to include current players.

The Lahman database (and its variants, including ANKITS which I don't really know anything about) are the only databases I know of that can be imported.

No, seriously gastric...I was born a yankee fan...instead of a placenta I had a yankee cap....my mom said it was very uncomfortable for her. My birthmark is in the form of a yankees symbol too....like a tattoo....further proof I was BORN a yankee...my blood is blue (....and white pinstripes)

Manooly....thanks for the welcome...I can see it already....I work over a hundred hours a week (usually) but last night I stayed up until 4am to finish reading the manual (which appears to have pages missing actually... )...so the few hours of my life that I have free will be separated between ootp5...rtcw...my kids...and my wife....I see a divorce coming in the near future...

Matchstick....cool....will try it and let you know. Will this "total" league I will be opening be a career one?

Brandon...thanks for that clarification...much appreciated...things are starting to make sense now!! WOO-HOO!!!

Bravo,

I think you'll fit in well here, even if you were born a Yankee fan
