The Computer Generated a Player Named After Me

Douglas McAteer is a utility infielder for Denver in my fictional league. My name is Dan McAteer, I found this very interesting. Anyone have any McAteer's in there leagues?

Wow..pretty cool! Don't recall a McAteer in my league, but now I'll go double check. How is Douglas doing? Is he worthy of the McAteer name???

I thought this was pretty funny too. Unfortuantely Doug is such a marginal player that I didn't even notice him until the league's third year of existence. He was chosen 454th overall in the initial draft and only averages about 100 AB's per year, but anyways I thought it was really cool.

McAteer is actually one of the possible names in the last names data file.

So the question is...how did my name get there?

I always get excited when I see my name in the game, of course it happens all the time...

Ritch King (spelled wrong but)

I have seen Rick's, Richard's, Rich's, Richie's, Ricky's, Dick's and pretty much every other variation of my name in there, but with a boring last name like that...

I have actually gone through the name file and found names of friends that I thought no one else would ever have,

Weirdest thing I have ever seen though...

I used to write under the pen name Michael Anthony. The BPLA when it generated its players, generated a Michael Anthony. No big deal I thought, common name. Birthdate, 3/20/1976, exact same as mine.

I thought that was way too weird, so I almost deleted him, but left him there quietly.

I imagine Markus got a big list of last names somewhere to put in the data files. Your last name isn't all that uncommon.

I've seen one player with my last name, Pendergraft, that was really cool. I've seen a few variations on my last name but only with my first OOTP5 league did I actually see a Pendergraft.

Really? I would suppose it wouldn't be all that rare in Ireland but I'm not aware of anyone im not related to in the U.S. with the last name of McAteer. Anyone know any McAteer's?
