Paul Phillips, World Series Hero

This is a story from the 7th year of my sim league.

Paul Philips was a rookie that I brought up for the world series when Vladimir Guerrero went down. I wanted to play my backup catcher Rudy Kegler in right field so I needed a backup catcher. Paul was the man.

I think he was about 28 years old and I had almost cut him 10 times in the past 2 seasons.

Anyway, its game 5 (I'm up 3 games to 1) of the series in the 10th inning. The Angels already scored 1 in the top of the inning. Centerfielder Harville leads off the inning with a single. My catcher Blanco doubles. 2nd and 3rd.

Up steps the rookie Phillips in his first career at bat. He sends a rocket into left-center field. Harville scores. Blanco is waived around third and beats the throw by a foot. Phillips' 2 run single wins the world series at home.

Season ends, Phillips gets his 15 minutes of fame.

Start new season.

Unfortunately, Phillips pinch hit the night before so his heroics didn't come in his only major league at bat
