Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals

Good news: I actually get to watch the Royals play, and they haven't shattered my dreams just yet. That will take at least a week.

Bad news: I have to listen to Accardo's "homer" Sox announcers.

More good news: KC is up 2-0 in the 5th.

"2-0, bad guys." You people were right, that's really annoying if you aren't a Sox fan.

Also, Runelvys is pitching a gem and University of Nebraska product Ken Harvey has two doubles!

EDIT: They actually took Hernandez out fairly early instead of letting him rack up a huge pitch count--that could be a very good sign for the future, although it puts the status of this game in jeopardy.

Nice game by Hernandez.

The Twins have a lead over the White Sox that I doubt they will ever give up.

From the White Sox point of view.... once again Frank Thomas fails to lay a catcher out, and slides!

I was paying attention to this game cause I picked up Mike MacDougal to replace Rivera while Mariano is on the disabled list for my fantasy team. It was nice to see him get the save for me, but I don't know much about him. Does anyone know if the Royals plan on making him their closer, or are they using a bullpen by committe?

I am not sure if they are making him closer. I also read that he has thrown a 103 MPH fastball. Here is an article from SI about the Royals: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/bas...eports/royals/

These are the things where they talk about MacDougal.
- Stretched out alongside a pool in Surprise, Ariz., one afternoon this spring, Mike MacDougal, the 26-year-old Kansas City closer with all of 24 1/3 career innings, flipped on his cellphone. When he saw that the phone was out of service -- it had been all week -- MacDougal cursed and, with the same right arm that has uncorked 103-mph fastballs, threw the phone into the air as high as he could. It landed on a nearby lawn just as the sprinkler system, as if on cue, activated. Within seconds MacDougal's phone was soaked, and permanently out of service. "Oh, well," the mellow Floridian said with a shrug. "I bought a new one anyway."

-Mike MacDougal has power and guts, and they're thinking of making him their closer, but that's just stupid. He's too young and too wild. He's an eight-innings, seven-walks kind of guy, but he is electric

-The pitchers with the biggest upside are MacDougal and Affeldt,

Yeah, MacDougal is the closer. But I wouldn't have him on your team unless you have a couple other guys who are reliable at getting saves. For one thing, he's very young and has minimal ML experience. For a second thing, he can be very wild at times, which might hurt him as a closer. For a third thing, there are two other very good young relievers with closer potential in the Royals organization, Ryan Bukvich and Jeremy Hill, who may also be given a shot to close games in the near future. But for now, he's not a bad guy to have.

I wish he had laid out... maybe he would have knocked Brent Mayne out of the game. I know that sounds mean, but you don't realize how bad Brent Mayne is. He wouldn't have to be injured badly, just something that would keep him out long enough for someone else to get time and for the Royals management to realize how much better whoever the replacement is than Mayne.

Are you sure Royals management would have a clue?

No, I'm not sure they would have a clue at all. There's always a chance though. I'm currently optimistic because they took out Hernandez after only 77 pitches, even though he was tossing an absolute gem.

I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt (except for a few guys); But the "Big Hurt" should bring fear to players blocking the plate?

Maybe in another era.

Was Sweeney moved out of the catching position for longevity reasons?

And that is in just a few words that shows the Glass family. They won the bidding for the Royals years ago, when someone else should have probably got it, and their ineptitude on managing a team (along with Baird) shows that yes Royals management does NOT have a clue.

Man do I miss the Kauffman dynasty. They at least cared what was going on the field. These Glass folks just want to say, "See? I am a MLB team owner! I get to sit with the big guys and pretend I am important! Actually do something for the team? Go away, I am not worried about the onfield stuff.....CUT spending, and why DO we have to keep Sweeney? We traded and/or lost all those players to the A's...... I want my money!"

And so on.

Need I say more?

The Royals will always be near and dear to me heart, but, I am resigned to the fact that they may never make a pennant run ever again......

And that sucks IMO.

For a fourth thing, how many save opportunities will the Royals actually have?

He's actually been at first base for several years now, so I don't recall exactly why he moved.

I am in 2 different leagues. Neither are leagues where I can save players. In one league I don't have any closers at all, so MacDougal will help. In the other league I have Percival and Rivera, so I will probably only use MacDougal until Mariano comes off the DL. As far as the Royals not getting many saves that can be decieving. Usually bad teams don't score many runs so when they do win it is usually by less than 3 runs.

The Royals are 2-0 and it feels really good being a long suffering KC fan. It may be false hope but I really think this young team can make some noise this season. That being said I would not be suprised if we lost our next ten. Tired of seeing all the young talent ending up on other teams. If it was not for loyalty I would have switched teams long ago. I wish there was Salarycap similar to the NFL where small markets would get the chance to thrive agian. I'll stop venting now.

enjoy your thread!

GO ROYALS, and all SMALLmarketTEAMS!!!!!!
