Player Development Focus

I think it would be wonderful if you could, (potentially when entering the offseason or spring training?) specify how you would like a player to focus their training efforts.

As I imagine it, it could be implemented in a few ways
  1. Choose a limited number of players per offseason/ST/etc (maybe this is an amount could be determined by your individual personnel and would give them some additional flavor in the game)
  2. The game randomly chooses that this option is available for a(some) random player(s).
  3. The focus is optional for all players every time this event occurs, but I feel like it would become a tedious min/maxing sort of thing people feel forced to use.

The effectiveness of the focus could be affected by coaching personnel and could potentially negatively effect standard development, though that doesn't seem necessary if this is something that is only applied to a handful of players each time.

Things I think it would be interesting to be able to focus on include a lot of areas that you can't really train up or change with normal development, as well as some others that you can, but would allow you to have some additional control over the direction of development.
  • Developing a new pitch (a specific pitch or maybe a random one?)
  • A particular fielding rating (ex. IF Error, Catcher Arm, etc)
  • Pitcher GB/FB tendency
  • Batter batted ball profile (Lots of players trying to increase launch angle these days)
  • Hitting vs LHP/RHP (Like Joey Gallo trying to learn to hit lefties)
  • Pitching stamina (Potentially stretch out a RP to start)
  • Hold Runners (Jon Lester approves)
  • Running Speed/Base stealing
  • Base Hitting/Pitching ratings (This would probably be the least interesting thing to do, however might be easiest to tie in with individual hitting/pitching coach focus)

Story wise this could be like
The following coaches have time available this spring to spend some extra time with an individual players.
Let them know who you would like them to spend their time with and how you would like them to spend it.
  • Bench Coach Bilbo Baggins
  • Pitching Coach Fred Savage
I select my bench coach and ask them to work with my 2B to work on their Turn DP ability.
I select my Pitching coach to have them focus with one of my prospects to focus on adding a new pitch.
or
Your coaching staff is available to work with 5 players this offseason to help them focus on the team's vision for the future. Please select 5 players and choose how your staff will focus their efforts this winter.

Great ideas. Fifa 21 has a new feature like that, maybe it can be looked at to get ideas to implement your idea
