No Injury List / DL Offseason
Even quicker than Google, ask the OOTP veterans and baseball gurus.
In one of the recent versions, I recall eliminating the DL availability during the offseason. After losing one of my SP- doesn't matter he was going to be out for the season -I have to ask. Why? What's the rationale for locking it during the offseason, just to implement strategy? Help me out. Explain.

Because it isn't available in MLB? Also I think because you could use it to manipulate the 40 man roster in OOTP.

Yeah MLB has no injured list during off season. Once pre season/spring training comes back then injured list is open.
If not mlb teams could hide rule 5 guys on the injured list. |

So it does mandate one manage the 40-man more stringently, i.e. decide strategy. Is the ML rule in place to prevent exploits then or to promote that diligent management or both? I'm struggling with the logic of carrying a 8-9 month injury into the offseason and (does the game ask the the very day it begins? I'm not sure any longer.) then be asked to move the player on to the active roster, only to wait for preseason to enable moving him back again. Is the temporary occupation of the slot on the 40-man that influential in decision-making during that particular phase?

There is no inactive roster in the offseason.
If the person is injured and has a major league contract you have to put him back on your 40 man roster. If he has options you can still send him down to the minors. Then once the injured list is back on you can put him back on the 60 day injury list which will remove him from the 40 man until the off season again. |

Why was it done? Who knows. The mlb rules are complex and a lot has to do with monopolies, unions, and owner vs players. The injury list actually ends last day of regular season.
Here is the official rule: "2. A player cannot be placed on the MLB 10-day Injured List or MLB 7-day Injured List after the conclusion of the MLB regular season and throughout the post-season, off-season, and Spring Training, and a minor league player can be placed on a minor league club's 7-day Injured List only during his minor league club's regular season. EXCEPTION: With consent of the MLB Commissioner, a player on an MLB Active List (25-man roster) of a club that is active in the MLB post-season can be placed on the 10-day Injured List or 7-day Injured List during a post-season series. It is so you cannot store players on the DL/IL during the off-season which would allow a team to keep more than 40 players and potentially abuse the system.
Requires smarter roster management. This is a good thing. |
