Auto-Play Problem

I have a Challenge Mode save imported from 19 and it has worked fine for 3 or 4 seasons. Partway through this season the "Auto-Play until next game" on the main manager screen doesn't go off. Usually it appears if there is 1 or 2 day break and then you click it and when it cycles through the non-game days the play game button appears. This doesn't happen, the auto play until next game button stays on. When I click it the game progresses until the next personal message. It has done this for more than 7 games which I thought was the maximum for Challenge Mode.

If I click on the Play menu at the top and then click Today's Game I can play a single game.
