Two levels of minors - how does the game handle progression
I'm in the initial stage of starting a fictional league. For simplicity, I chose only two levels of minors. I'm going to sim two season seasons to get some stats established since I want to play stats-only.
I'm worried that only having two levels of minors might be an issue though. When amateur draft time hits and teams are drafting high schoolers, these guys will be in AA as 17-18 year-olds. 1) Will they be able to compete at AA level? 2) If so, will my player career path be skewed that players are reaching the majors at a younger age than is typical? Or will they just spend a few extra years in the two minor league levels and progress to the majors around a more normal age. Should I have maybe changed minimum age of all created players to 22 years old? If anyone has experience with a small minor league system, I'd appreciate if you can share some knowledge about this. |

i've never done this, so not sure.
however, don't increase created age. at least not to 22 for sure. while these players are more developed, if college, they will also have less time to develop. any stagnation or delay is almost certain failure for them. 22+ so if proportional even more 23/24 year olds etc. i'd leave ages untouched... the game just works better on this front, imo. i've tried age ranges before and had some odd results, but even if that's been ironed out since, too many potential drawbacks. based on how the game handles a league with no mil system, i'd say your probably okay... it 'should' adjust? you could compare PCMs of a full system and then compare to your MiL PCM... maybe shift them to even it out a bit? this controlls how a team is 'filled', if you use the leage settings fill function(s), from what i understand.. been too long, think manual mentions this or an old thread? may not be important... *leave mlb pcm untouched Last edited by NoOne; 12-09-2018 at 06:59 PM. |

I played a game with a single level of minors before. It wasn't ideal, in the end, but I didn't notice any differences with player development.
One thing to note is that every team will be beholden to the rule. So even if the short minors system causes you to end up with a bunch of young guys who haven't hit their prime and then flame out in the majors (unlikely), every other team will be dealing with that too, and the talent level league-wide will remain in balance. |
