Question about computer storage and OOTP
Lukas, Orcin, mitch and the others that helped me....I had another question about my game crashing. With my Vista on an older HP computer, is it possible that storage on my computer might help the game crash? I dont know all of this computer stuff, so I was wondering if I made room by deleting bunches of videos, pictures and documents, would that help give the game "room to run" better?? Would bunches of stuff stored on my computer be a hindrance to the game to run better?? Or since Vista is so old, it wouldnt really matter??
Thanks. |

ootp takes a lot of room -especially as your league gets larger and older - the saves and back-up become very large rather quickly. Deleting stuff you don't need might help, but also defragging will also help after you delete. (i'd save all those things you delete if they have any possible importance on a flash drive or external HD. No point in losing them just to see if the extra space will help.) i store my back-ups of OOTP on an 2 TB external hard drive so space really never comes into play on something like that.
it really depends on how small or large your current vista Hard Drive drive is. i suspect, if you ran out of free space, the game would simply not be able to make a back-up or save, give you a warning and then crash - but i'm not certain. i think the main culprit here is Vista age. Vista came out around 2007. that's over 10 years. CPUs, video cards, and storage spaces have all increased a LOT in those years. So the combination of all of them may be the real issue. 10 years ago 250 gb HD was a good deal, two years ago you could get a 4 TB external HD for less than $150. Point being, i think the processor speed (or lack of) and size of your HD may be part of the issues you are seeing, though the video card is most likely the main culprit. Your Vista computer probably only supports USB 2.0 at best, so adding an external HD to help with storage, would probably mean it'll be pretty slow to transfer data back and forth. not saying it can't/won't work. just it's not going to be quick and will have limitations. i have my game on a win 8.1 HP computer that's 5 years old, and it's not TOO bad speed wise, but i just sim my games, so all the 3D,2D, watching games etc doesn't come cause problems yet because i don't use them.

Thanks, mitch. I kinda had a feeling I was just bound to get rid of my Vista. My wife is giving me her laptop with Windows 10 and nothing else really on it. Hopefully, that will take care of all of this!
